Guest guest
The last 4-5 bottles of DMSO I have purchased seems to be either weak or impure. I have always bought it at Tractor Supply, the white 99% pure 16 oz bottle. Lately I noticed it did not make me smell and I could not taste is hardly at all when I got it on my hands full strength. I do not think the DMSO plus whatever mixes I have used for years are working like they used to, either. Today, I poured it from the bottle, straight into my cupped hand, and soaked my hubby's finger in it that was sore in the joint. We soaked it for about 30 minutes. I only mildly tasted the DMSO about an hour later, had no DMSO breath, and the hand would normally be dried and the top of the hand would be itchy where it ran over and down my arm. NOTHING! No dry skin, I even rubbed it all over my hands and arms, and no histamine reaction even on the underside of my arm where the tender skin is. I then placed the bottle in the freezer for about 30 minutes and it stayed mostly liquid. I think I need a better DMSO source now, suggestions? I can buy a gallon or more if needed, and am OK with plastic bottles. Thoughts? Sources? Kathy " We are being taxed to blow up bridges in Iraq and rebuild them, while ours are falling down. Guest guest
Just for kicks, Kathy, pour some of the weak/impure stuff into a glass measuring cup, cover it with a saucer and stick it in the fridge overnight. The part that's frozen is pure DMSO. Everything else is water or junk. Garnet will jump in but I believe she has said that it's hydrophyllic--it attracts water. Perhaps yours was bottled on a very humid day or something. I usually freeze all my DMSO when I buy new bottles, pour the junk off, thaw it out and pour it back in a rinsed out bottle and store tightly capped. I want to believe it doesn't stink as much as the unfrozen stuff but am aware it may only be wishful thinking. Guest guest
I use a bottle about every 6-8 weeks so I assume that not all my bottles were bottled on the same humid day, and I keep them tightly closed. I will put my bottle in the fridge overnight and see what is still liquid I thought about buying some from another Tractor Supply but will wait on that. Even at 6 bucks for 16 Oz it is still steep for most days around here... Kathy " We are being taxed to blow up bridges in Iraq and rebuild them, while ours are falling down. Guest guest
30 minutes in the freezer is not long enough. Try putting it in the refrigerator over night and let us know what happens. That is the real test. I can't account for not tasting it, or emitting any body odor. Although my personal theory is that can vary even with the same individual depending on how saturated your body is with other sources of Dimethyl Sulfide, which would include coffee, oysters, corn, all the sulfur containing cruciferous vegetables, garlic . . . and who knows what other factors that can influence your metabolism. Chlorophyll is knowns to help with the odor issues, so maybe if you are getting a lot of greens in your diet and well, it's just hard to pin it down as to why you get odor or taste one day and not the next. My experience is that it varies for me how much I taste it or emit an odor after using varying amounts. It's just not a reliable test. The histamine reaction can vary depending on the level of histamine in the Mast cells in that area. And it does normally dry an area but again depending on the fat or oil level in the skin, yada, yada . . . it's just hard to say, although I understand your trying to put it all together, so don't feel like I am trying to fault you here. Just pointing out that testing your theory is not as easy as you would think, based on the facts you have available. As for sources I have bought from www.petsupplies4less.com and have been pleased with their prices. But I am also happy with what I can pick up from Tractor Supply so at this point I would not jump to any conclusions about the FWI Distributed product at this point. Please let us know what you find when you try refrigerating your DMSO over night. Garnet Kathy wrote: > > The last 4-5 bottles of DMSO I have purchased seems to be either weak > or impure. Guest guest
From Gaylord chemicals website: http://gaylordchemical.com/synthesiscorner/cold_weather.php " Freezing Point Depression Agents: The best freezing point depressant for use with DMSO is water, (the freezing point of a DMSO mixture containing 8 wt% water will freeze at 0°C [~25*F]). " If your DMSO has more than 8% by weight water it will not freeze in your refrigerator at all. So if it does freeze then it has less than 8% water. Most refrigerators are between 38 and 40*F.
