Guest guest
Dr. Megson and others require that the first dose of Bethanecol be administered in the office. There is a very, very remote chance of wheezing and respiratory distress. I think it is something in the literature but has rarely, if ever, been seen. If I recall correctly, the dose was administered and we were told to wait in the waiting room for 30-45 minutes. Dr. Megson then briefly observed our son and sent us on our way. We are doing the Vit A part now and have a Dr. willing to give the Rx for Bethanechol but I know some practitioners like for the child to be in the office at the time of administration. What exactly are they looking for and what would be the counter medication? Thanks,
Guest guest
We are using her protocal. Here is a clip from an article off her website and the antidote is mentioned I always bring them into the office and observe them for one hour after the first dose. Please note that Bethanechol does not cross the blood brain barrier. It stimulates the pathways that are blocked in the hippocampus through gut to brain connections. Children who are sick or have active asthma should not be treated as this medicine may increase mucous secretions in the airway. Atropine is a direct antidote to Urecholine/Bethanechol. Guest guest
That sounds to me like they are looking for a possible allergic reaction. - Stan > > > > Has anyone tried Dr. Megson's Vit A protocol with Bethanechol? Guest guest
My son is a patient of Dr. Megson, she administered it in the office, but it is not a must, but if you have been on Cod Liver oil for a while, you will most like see withth first dose if he a is a responder, some kids talk after the dose, some stop looking sideways, and some start noticing and pointing at objects that they had never seen before.if your child is a responder it is quite amazing. My son did not respond the first dose because he hadn't had the cod liver oil first, but after a couple of days, he responded, looking at pics and pointing and many other things. E-mail me privately if you need more help. HIH. Selena __________________________________________________
Guest guest
The allergy doesn't seem very common. I'm sure your doctor is just playing it safe... Let us know how it goes. - Stan > > > > > > Has anyone tried Dr. Megson's Vit A protocol with Bethanechol? > We > > are doing the Vit A part now and have a Dr. willing to give the Rx > for > > Bethanechol but I know some practitioners like for the child to be > in > > the office at the time of administration. Guest guest
We were told they it was a precaution because of possible allergic reactions. they are very rare though. Guest guest
Do I worry that we started bethanochol on our own (Megson prescribed it, we did NOT go to her office for the first dose)? We have our son take 1 tsp. 2x day of CLO. Does that sound right? His bethanochol is compuonded (0.25 mL 2xday). Thanks, > > Yes, Wellness compounded our bethanechol > > Mané > > >
Guest guest
Megson also prescribed it for our son, same dose, did not do an in- office challenge. After a 2-week trial (inconclusive) we had to stop b/c we suspected seizures. They probably wouldn't have shown up on a first-day challenge though. Megson knows I'm really cautious about allergies, and am careful with trials (have an Epi-pen handy), so she may not have been as concerned about that with my son if allergies were her reason for an in-office challenge. But any med has allergy potential, and I don't think bethanechol more so than others, so I think her reason for in-office challenges probably isn't because of allergies. Guest guest
Ronan is about 40 pounds now on the same dose he started about 6 months ago (0.25 mL 2x day). He's 3.7 years old. We go back to Megson next Monday--I'm curious if we'll continue this medication. I think Ronan has plateaued on a few of the protocols. I want to know if we need to continue bethanochol, LDN, valtrex and nystatin. He started NCD toward the end of the summer and hope to see some gains. My husband is hopeful that we can remove some of the Rx medication/chemicals from Ronan's daily routine to see if things get better. I'm scared to remove anything yet since I don't know how to decrease something we've been using daily for so long. I'll keep reading and asking questions! We went away for the weekend and I have hundreds of posts from the 4 boards I'm on.....I'll be catching up the next two days at least! Stay in the know. Pulse on the new Yahoo.com. Check it out.
