I am a co-owner on another thyroid site, and neither of these doctors are

listed in our Doctors links. Whether that is because the information on

their site is not exactly the way it really is, or whether they won't treat

with a TSH below .2, I'm not really sure. I know that the original owner

was not listing anyone there, at one time, who treated solely by the lab

numbers, especially when some people have to have their TSH suppressed, in

order to feel well. I certainly don't put any stock in the TSH, except when

it's too high because that usually means that the thyroid is being

stimulated to death, which can mean autoimmune attack and a greater risk of

getting thyroid cancer. I remember Dr. Hotze being mentioned, but can't

remember what was said about him, at this time. You know that some of the

best thyroid docs in Texas don't accept insurance, or their acceptance of it

is very limited. There's one in Lubbock, Tx that I would love to start

seeing, but I'd have to fly out there to see him, and he is something like

$1500-3000 for all the tests that he would have to run to be thorough and

comprehensive in total diagnosis. His whole family is hypothyroid,

including his wife, so he has great understanding of the way we all feel.

He does treat with Armour, but as with treatment, the patient has to seek

out and be aggressive with what they're feeling and what they want. His

name is Dr. . Some of these doctors say one thing on a website,

and, when you call them or set up an appointment, they tell an entirely

different story, once they have your business. Some (I can't say how many

or if there are very many) listed on the About site have been known to do

this. I believe that those who lie like this are simply drumming up

business, and that's my opinion. I do know that Dr. Sheridan is not on our

site, and there must be a reason for that.

Amen to this because one of the docs listed at about.com - this

one in particular:

St. sburg

Dr.Roland Lajoie M.D Endocrinologist . A reader tells us

that Dr. Lajoie, " is willing to discuss your problems and not rush

you out the door. He goes into all the details of why and what he is

doing. All the questions you ask he gives you a detailed answer and

will refer you to web sites on the net.

This endo is the last one I went to and REFUSED to rx Armour. And,

he did rush me out the door with my very first initial consult being

a whole 15 mins. total! He also told me to not do any research on

the internet because most of it is not true!

Hmmm I wonder if there is a way to get him off the about site?

Shomon has such a wonderful site, but this is something that I've

neglected to do, but I'm going to---I'm going to write about this, though, I

really can't remember the names of each doctor who is pulling these

shannigans. Many writers have complained about this being the case with

different doctors. I know---the common advice is just to blow it off, and

just never go back, but I get so angry about doctors taking a patient's

money, with no intention of carrying forward any of the original statements

that they made, or just outright lying about it. That person has lost money

they just spent on an unworthy cause that they could have spent elsewhere

finding out what's wrong with them. Many of the people who are on the

support groups don't have much money for day-to-day living, let alone

$500-600 bucks to spend on a doctor who's taking them nowhere. That's why

calling a doctor's office and finding out what his/her views are on many

different things makes a lot of sense to me, and if they balk at giving any

sort of info on the phone (what is it, five minutes of the nurse's or

his/her time?), then my suggestion is to never make the appointment. It

reminds me of a vampire.

is the doc that the other owner on our site sees for the last few yrs. He does not sell supplements, just too darn expensive for me.

Re: Top Doc in TX thinks Hashi's/allergies linked/Armour study done

Thanks, ...(also thanks for sending me Gail's tips. I'll read it tonight!).

I just found it interesting that Dr. Sheridan did this independent Armour study. I knew you were self-treating and didn't know if either of these docs might be a possibility. Of course TX is a huge state and even if they were FAB docs, they might be too far away for you to go see them. I do get suspicious though when docs are promoting supplements.

That Dr. you were talking about sounds good, but whew, you do need some $, that's for sure! But, for a doc whose family his hypo and who is that comprehensive, it could be worth it.

yeah, probably those docs aren't on the top doc list for a reason.

take care, sheila
