Guest guest
Hi everyone, With all this discussion on dosage for Valtrex, I wanted to ask you all a question. My son is 10 years old and weighs about 65 pounds. I was under the impression that for older children that weigh more the dosage is higher than 1000 mg 3x a day. is currently taking 1000 3x a day. I was planning on increasing this dosage in the next couple of days, but I will not do so if it would harm him. is on day 29 on Valtrex. He had a slight fever and some rashes but has not really had any big gains yet. Diflucan was in place a month before we went on Valtrex. He is also on Malarone and Zithromax (antibiotics) because of lyme disease. Any input on dosage for older heavier children would be appreciated. Guest guest
Dr. Green prescribed 500 mg twice a day for my 70 lb 8 year old. I am still at 250 mg 3 times a day with him, its been about 45 days now. There was much to be seen by way of yeast/bacteria even on that dose for him. Guest guest
Hi , My son is 70 lbs and taking 1 tsp 3 x a day of 1000mg/10ml. Which comes out to 1500mg per day. 1000mg 3 x a day sounds a little high. That would be 3000mg a day. Are you sure that's what your giving? Guest guest
Dana, I am only giving 1000 mg a day spread throughout the day at three differennt times. You are giving 1500mg a day which is a higher dose than I am giving. B ut you answered my question though. It is OK to go higher with a child who weighs more. Thanks Re: Dosing for Valtrex > >Hi , > > My son is 70 lbs and taking 1 tsp 3 x a day of 1000mg/10ml. Which comes out to 1500mg per day. > > 1000mg 3 x a day sounds a little high. Guest guest
Gayatri, Thanks for your response. My son's yeast and bacteria are pretty much under control with the Diflucan and Zithromax. I guess basically it's an individual thing as far as dosage is concerned. Guest guest
Staying with the antifungal during this therapy is very important and I like Zithromax if you have to do an antibiotic for Lymes... and it may help in other ways as well. To me I don't think the Valtrex dosage needs to be that high. But if you do try it, keep reporting in. Maybe you'll find something that others haven't. From reports so far we haven't come across any 65 pound child improving by continuing to raise the dose over what you are giving. In fact, my typical response would be that 500mg three times a day is probably what we see most effective in these kids. More isn't always better. - Stan > > Hi everyone, > > With all this discussion on dosage for Valtrex, I wanted to ask you all a question. My son is 10 years old and weighs > about 65 pounds.
