Guest guest
When I was diagnosed with EN in 1967 or was it 1968, there was no treatment except for Vitamin B shots only. That is all I have ever had. The meds I am on are all for my Sarcoidosis. They are doing nothing for the EN. The meds I am on are 75mg Imuran, Plaquenil, and Methotrexate. I am hoping that one day all will go into remission. Have done 2 days worth and have 2 days to go. I have not broken out in hives nor have I started to itch. I would think these would be great fantastic signs. Problem???? I have completely broken out in a major flare up of EN. I don't know if this desensitation is causing this or not. I do see my dermatologist on Tuesday and I am off of work tomorrow so I was just going to rest a bit. But I'm in pain and can't get comfortable. The nurse I worked with today really wanted me checked out at the ER, but how many visits does a person have to go through for them to really say, ummm...there really isn't anything we could do for you. I will wait patiently till Tuesday, get tons of injections and discuss if the desensitizing caused this. I pray it did not. Going back on the SSKI is about my only hope here. Oh well, I guess if SSKI is causing it, at least I know not to touch the stuff in the future. Besides steriods, what other medications is everyone taking that is working for the EN? the lumpy sore zoo
Guest guest
Dear Zoo, I'm so sorry that you have had a major EN flare up since starting the SSKI again. I have no experience with SSKI but lots of our members have. Of the many causes of EN, use of iodine drugs is one, so it is rather odd that some people get great EN relief from taking SSKI. The mechanism of SSKI is not exactly understood, and why it works for some and not for other isn't either. Since you work in a hospital, I am guessing you have taken all the possible tests to rule out underlying causes. Do you have any conditions besides the EN? If you think back to when you first came down with EN were you exposed to anything? EN can be caused by a virus and those are hard to identify. Even a fungus can cuse it. I wish I could be more help here. It is frustrating! Hopefully the dermatologist will have some ideas. Love, PS: Some of our members have gone on antibiotic therapy. Guest guest
Dear Zoo, I know you must have gone over many of the links and files on this site and the internet, but let me refer you to this one which lists many of the causes of EN: http://www.enh.org/encyclopedia/ency/article/000881.asp I am assuming that you have had the concurrent disorders all systematally eliminated. Once that is done, we need to look at drug sensitivity and allergies. Perhaps your doctor is overlooking some of the more esoteric causes.
