Guest guest
I'd just like to point out that one of the advantages of walking compared to running is that it is much easier on your joints. The heavier one is, the harder running is on their joints. Walking can be more aerobic than running. That is, if you carry handweights and swing your arms while you walk. Not only is this more aerobic, but it builds up your upper body like nothing else. I encouraged my obese son last year to follow such a program, along with some changes in eating style. He has dropped from 275 pounds down to 220 in that time. His biceps have increased to an 18 inch girth and the woman who fits him for civil war reenactment uniforms has told him that he CAN NOT let his biceps get any bigger. He started out with 2 pound weights I think, but his body quickly adapted and he now finds anything less than 12 pounds to be too light. Guest guest
thanks for the replies. I can see that i didn't really provide enuf info! I already walk, though only a couple of miles a day. I also do both yoga and tai chi. Not overweight at all (!!), and I do the aerobic exercise on machines so there's no shock (it'd kill me to actually run except on the beach with the soft sand!). And I'm 67 with a " genetic " (I don't really subscribe to " genetic " causes as the environment has to be correct for the genes to express themselves, but the relationships are petty clear here) predisposition to hi BP from both parents (who both died from strokes, though not young) and one younger brother already has it. I suspect the cause is hardening of the arteries, rooted in early (pre 2 year old experience) fear/anxiety. Sugar was mentioned and could be suspect as, by chance, I've been drinking apple juice a lot in the last month when my BP has climbed - so maybe I'll just stop that for a bit and see what happens. I don't eat potatoes or corn except occasionally - more grains, yogurt, homemade chicken soup with fat removed, leafy greens from my garden (perhaps lite in those), and lots of frozen fruit from last year (blueberries and raspberries) plus homemade applesauce. The Mukta Vati looks really interesting - check out the health food store today! So thanks again Steve G wrote: > > I'd just like to point out that one of the advantages of walking > compared to running is that it is much easier on your joints.
