Guest guest
Hi Mrs. Troite, You don't have to change your plans!! A punch biopsy is exactly what I had. They numb the area with a couple of pin pricks and you don't feel a thing after that. The punch tool is about the size of a pen, with a little larger circumfrence that has a circle razor at the end and it does just that: it punches through the skin, grabs a chunk of the area from the skin to about an inch deep, into the lump. They close you up with a couple stitches and send you home. It might feel a little tender when the anesthetic wears off, but definitely not enough to kill your plans for the evening. A couple tylenol would take care of any soreness, IF any. It's a breeze! M =) > I am scheduled for what my doctor called a punch biopsy in my lower > leg in a couple weeks. Guest guest
hi mrstroite, i had a punch biopsy on my lower leg to dx pg. it is typically 3mm punch tool, very sharp cyclinder shaped that takes a plug of tissue for analysis. they will numb the area first. they stitch the hole back up with a few stitches. i had a particlar difficult time with this after the local wore off. of course, pg was painful to begin with. depends on your threshhold for pain i guess. just be prepared to take a big time pain reliever and put your leg up. not saying it will happen that way for you necessarily....just my experience. jeff > I am scheduled for what my doctor called a punch biopsy in my lower > leg in a couple weeks. Guest guest
-Hi Jeff, Thanks a bunch for your answer back. I guess I will change the appointment or the dinner date with the family! I am a big baby when it comes to pain and pain killers knock me out big time! Yikes this doesnt sound like much fun but at least I know what to expect now. Thanks again, Mrs Troite -- In erythema_nodosum_Group , " Jeff " <the5berks@y...> wrote: > hi mrstroite, > > i had a punch biopsy on my lower leg to dx pg. it is typically 3mm > punch tool, very sharp cyclinder shaped that takes a plug of tissue > for analysis. they will numb the area first. they stitch the hole > back up with a few stitches. i had a particlar difficult time with > this after the local wore off. of course, pg was painful to begin > with. depends on your threshhold for pain i guess. just be prepared > to take a big time pain reliever and put your leg up. not saying it > will happen that way for you necessarily....just my experience. > > jeff > > > > I am scheduled for what my doctor called a punch biopsy in my lower > > leg in a couple weeks. Guest guest
I am terrified by needles so I had a hard time sitting still for it, but aside from the pain when he was digging out his specimen I didn't find it particularly painful. It would hurt when I bumped it which was often since it was inside my leg just above my knee. I found the removal of the stitches painful though since he couldn't find the end of the thread right away. It didn't stop me from going out that night with a friend though. TerriSue Mechem wrote: I had a "standard" punch biopsy followed by a "deep" punch biopsy of an active lump about three months later when the results of the first one came back as inconclusive. The deep one did leave a permanent scar (as I had been told it would); the first one left a minor scar detectable only if you look hard for it. Neither one was particularly painful... the worst was the "tingling" feeling as the local anesthetic wore off (similar to Novocain wearing off after a trip to the dentist). Both times I had to keep the suture area (there were 2 or 3 small sutures the first time, about half a dozen the second) clean, dry etc. as one would with any open wound. I turned out to be allergic to the topical neomycin first prescribed so it got a little angry looking and itchy until we changed to bacitraicin - but again I can't say there was any pain. Sue M. Re: Re: Biopsy!!! Hi everyone, I am scheduled for a punch biopsy too!! next week. There is pain afterwards???? errr! I am a baby with this too. I wish there was another way. I want someone to tell me that a blood test will diagnos this EN> I want to hear what I want to hear. You know? Everyone have a beautiful day!!
