Guest guest
I tried a probiotic and had side effects like bloating, loss appetite and my nose became very stuffy so I went off it and in a few days all went away so I'm thinking yogurt is just as good so I'm going to get plain yogurt as I am hypoglycemic and will add blueberries. marg Subject: stuffiness with a probioticTo: "miralax " <miralax >Date: Saturday, May 31, 2008, 7:35 AM The Chef I work with has had chronic stuffiness and hacks all the time, I've tried to help him figure out what has caused this his whole life with no luck. He just recently started a pro-biotic and now he's really stuffy and has larengitis, I realize this could be coincidence and he could have a virus of some kind but does anyone know if a probiotic could be causing this to happen? Guest guest
Hi Marg, I've read that some of the side effects you mention from probiotics (e.g., bloating and loss of appetite: also headache for some) are actually signs that probiotics are really needed. Maybe you can try a less-intense product or lower dose and work your way up to a higher dose. Those symptoms can indicate, for example, yeast " die-off " which can be uncomfortable but is indicative that there is some GI dysbiosis. I think the active cultures in yogurt are helpful, assuming that dairy is not a problem for you. However, it might not ultimately provide a high enough number of probiotics. hth! > > From: jeanie ward dreamjeanie@... > Subject: stuffiness with a probiotic > To: " miralax " miralax > Date: Saturday, May 31, 2008, 7:35 AM > > > > > > > > The Chef I work with has had chronic stuffiness and hacks all the time, I've tried to help him figure out what has caused this his whole life with no luck. Guest guest
I wouldnt think the probiotics could cause him to loose his voice, but could be a wierd side affect. I would suspect the good bacteria is cleaning out the bad at the very least. If he has had cronic stuffiness all his life that sounds like yeast/fungal issue. I would have him try OLE or Oil of oregeno to kill the yeast issues. I would stop the probiotics then take the other for a few days then pick up the probiotics again after about 3 days. Guest guest
ditto to the yeast - could be bad yeasties - you sometimes get much worse when yeast dies off - gets sort of toxic, just before it gets better. i can't take OLE right now becuase too strong during pregnancy, but had A LOT of luck with apple cider vinegar (someone here had suggested it - generally vinegar bad for yeast, but not organic unfiltered ACV - is THE BEST). try drinking two tablespoons/day mixed with 8 oz water and tablespoon of honey. is amazing. good luck. probiotics really are the best. Guest guest
Couple of thoughts: Dairy intolerance comes to mind with the lifetime symptoms of stuffiness. Add in a probiotic that is dairy based, and you could get a double whammy. Could be die off -- ask him if he has similar symptoms after a flu bug where he can't eat for a few days -- if so than yeast die off is probable. Sinus infection? I friend of mine with no health insurance had a really bad one a few months ago. I suggested something that I hadn't ever tried myself (and I told her !) She put a couple drops of grapefruit seed extract and 1/8 tsp sea salt in a cup of warm water then used a neti pot to sniff into one nostril at a time. Worked like a charm. A RN friend of hers didn't believe her, had a terrible sinus infection herself and tried it and was amazed. This RN has become a believer in many natural remedies since. > > The Chef I work with has had chronic stuffiness and hacks all the time, I've tried to help him figure out what has caused this his whole life with no luck. Guest guest
the probiotic is suppose to be allergy free, Kirkman's, he doesn't drink milk but I told him to stay away form the dairy and bread etc. my thoughts exactly. It did make me wonder however about the yeast in the probiotic added to the yeast build up in the body though...........mommtlc wrote: Couple of thoughts:Dairy intolerance comes to mind with the lifetime symptoms of stuffiness. Guest guest
Many sinus issues are a yeast/fungal issue(this also includes athletes feet, dandruff etc). The OLE- olive leaf extract kills yeast etc(also viral if that is his issue), oil of oregeno does the same, it is highly recommended for sinus etc. but recommended to take probiotics with the oregeno because it is thought the oregeno is so potent that it can kill some of the good bacteria in the gut. My husband struggled for yrs horribly with sinus and when we learned about the oregeno he tried it and it worked. He also takes the probiotics to counter the possible bacteria issue, but it REALLY works!! I believe the grapefruit seed is also a mycotoxin killer as well! We just havent personally had the chance to try yet! In talking about all this sinus issues, it starts in the gut and that is wear the healing with these supplements starts also. I really believe that a lot of our childrens constipation issues is in the loop of the mycotoxin/viral issues also!
