Bad news for land Lyme doctors and patients

You have to wonder what their long range goals are and where this turf

war is going to end. Follow the money.

Efforts to exclude alternative practitioners and treatments are on the

rise with physicians in Britain being suspended from medical practice,

totaling three in recent months and the passage of legislation in

land to halt alternative treatment of chronic Lyme's disease.

Eventually most of us do pursue some form of alternative healing either

because it is more effective, more safe or less costly than allopathic

medicine.

When 85% of the drugs used by some specialties are untrialled and hence

unproven by scientific standards it is obvious that lack of double blind

testing is not the true issue. This figure was reported in November 2009

at the Infectious Disease Specialists Annual Conference in a poster

session. " Current Use " and insurance company treatment databases are the

only support for the use of all but 15% of drugs that are standards of

treatment in that specialty.

Why then are thousands of years of history of use or current use of

herbs, vitamins and now even foods not sufficient to allow medical

claims or use in treatment by holistic physicians?

Educating our voting populace is one way to counter current trends in

the attempt to out law holistic health practices.

Bottom line- We once had no definition of Lyme, no restrictions on

treatment, no set standard of care and no doctors being investigated for

the over diagnosis and treatment of Lyme (the best scenario in this

political climate). Now we must be aware of and adhere to the following

new principles or risk actions/charges being taken against our doctors,

while no treatment guidelines are in place to defend alternative

treatment options. "

A doctor has been banned from prescribing drugs and told to take down

part of her website after appearing before the General Medical Council.

*One of the complaints was on the content of Dr Myhill's website, which

warned patients against oral contraceptives, the MMR triple vaccine as

well as mammogram tests and biopsies for cancer. But Dr Mygill says she

tries to find the causes of a disease, rather than treating the symptoms

with drugs. She said in a statement on her website that a group of

doctors have complained about her recommending a B12 vitamin injection

to a patient. A second complainant said the information on her website

was " very worrying " and was concerned " patients are being seriously

misled " . She told BBC Wales: " I think there's a small group of doctors

who perceive me as a threat to their professional integrity in some way

and that is certainly not my desire to in any way threaten them. " My

motive is purely to help the patient to get well in as safe a way as is

possible. " *
