Guest guest
A NEW LAW TO KNOW ABOUT: If a patrol car is pulled over to the side of the road, you have to change To the next lane (away from the stopped vehicle) or slow down by 20 mph. EVERY state except Hawaii and land and the D.C. has this law. In California, the " Move-over " law became operative on Ja nuary 1, 2010. Click Here >>_http://www.moveoveramerica.com/_ (http://www.moveoveramerica.com/) A friend's son got a ticket for this Recently. A police car (turned out it was 2 police cars) was on the side of the Road giving a ticket to someone else. He slowed down to pass but did not Move into the other lane. The second Police car immediately pulled him over And gave him a ticket. He had never Heard of the law. It is a fairly new law that States if any emergency vehicle is on the side of the road, if you are able, you are to move into the far lane. The cost of the ticket was $754.00 with 3 points on your license and a mandatory court appearance. Please alert ALL DRIVERS you know about this new law. It is true (see details at the following web Link/URL below). Guest guest
$754 seems excessive to me, but I've known about this law for years. Not too much sympathy for folks who are not familiar with driving laws, but drive anyway. Here in Michigan they are passing a law making it a primary driving offense to be texting while driving. They shouldn't need a law for this as there is already a law against driving while being distracted which would include shaving, reading a newspaper, putting on make-up, eating, drinking, fussing with the radio, disciplining children, oggling hot chicks on the sidewalk, and anything you can think of... even texting! Of course, the issue is how a police offer can prove whether the person was distracted or not.Steve G
Guest guest
Z Thank You, FOR THE WARNING . California has gone off the scale in ways to grab money .I got pulled over with 22 other motorist coming down a hill on the freeway a month ago the ticket was five hundred and then the penalties and assessments of course. I think every local government is going to start feeling the pinch and try all kinds of ways to get cash . Everyone have a swell day Ted > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > A NEW LAW TO KNOW ABOUT: If a patrol car is pulled over to the side of > the road, you have to change To the next lane (away from the stopped > vehicle) or slow down by 20 mph. Guest guest
The Move Over Law has been operative in Texas for a while now and as far as I can tell people respect it. Slowing down by 25 mph when they can not move over and changing lanes when they can. If it were me being stopped I would certainly appreciate the added safety. Stopping on the shoulder of most interstates is risky and people tend to steer where they are looking. I am surprised that anyone is unaware of this law. I guess you might think people are doing this out of common sense and courtesy. That is pretty steep fine, although the cost of running our cities and counties has increased, so it makes sense that they are going to charge the offenders more and more, particularly for the offenses that they want to draw attention to. Money talks, that's for sure. Guest guest
Yeah. I think states and cities have become predatory in their ticketing frenzies. In Michigan, if you get 7 points on your driving record or forget to have your proof of insurance and/or car registration on hand, you are subject to a special 'driver responsibility fine on top of your ticket cost. And.... they assess this fee on you for two years in a row. Bastards! I think it's all about money.  Our governor has been running our state into the ground since she took office. Michigan is the only state that didn't participate in the last recovery. This is from Michigan's government website: The fees begin at $100 for seven points and increase by $50 for each additional point on the record (8 points = $150, 9 points = $200, etc.). Note: Category 2 offenses that result in points are not used to calculate Category 1 fees. Category 2 Fees (Qualifying Offenses) Category 2 fees are imposed for specific offenses as defined by law. This fee is assessed for two years in a row. Category 2 Fees Sample Operating While Intoxicated..............................$1,000 Operating While Impaired....................................$500 Driving While License Suspended........................$500 No Proof of Insurance...........................................$200 Driving With Expired Driver’s License................$

They shouldn't need a law for this as there is already a law against driving while being distracted our town and the next town over have just both enacted such laws, but though it has been months in one town and many weeks in mine, so far there is absolutely ZERO evidence of any enforcement. My husband has seen police cars drive right past cars in which the driver is on a cell phone or texting, and they do absolutely nothing. Even though a year or so ago, a teenage girl drove around a corner here at night, while texting, and crashed into the neighbor's trailer, spilling it over and causing his snow mobiles to fall off and be damaged, and gasoline to spill all over his lawn. AND, she had just barely gotten her license back from a similar accident she had, also while texting................without enforcement laws are useless, and I'm sure there was plenty of law to stop this idiot from driving after her first incident. sol
