OT--Possible Allergy

Hi all:

This is sort of off topic, but I'm wondering if this is an allergic reaction or something else.

Every once in awhile when I eat cashews I get a funny taste in my mouth--like eggs. It's not all the time, and it doesn't matter what brand. Anyway, on Tuesday, I ate just a few cashews from Whole Foods (it's their store brand). Not long after eating them, I got that taste in my mouth. A few hours later my stomach was KILLING me. By the time I got home from work, I had severe diarrhea which lasted until last night!

I've never had anything like this happen before. Usually, when I have a food allergy, I either break out in hives, or my throat closes up. I've never experienced anything like this before. I started to wonder if maybe the cashews were contaminated like the peanuts? I'm just now feeling up to 65%. I don't remember when I got tested for allergies if cashews were on the list. I know I have a slight allergy to peanuts. I can eat them, but I do have to be careful.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this.

Thanks.Elaine-- Live ready.http://laineyvette.blogspot.com/http://theaccidentalhomemaker.blogspot.com/

Elaine, I too have some odd things that happen when I eat certain foods and food persatives. Some places I can not eat anything they sell. I believe it is food persatives. Some foods that I eat does not anyways bother me right away. It will take several hours and I get sick at my stomach and throw up. When my stomach is empty, I am fine. Finally I did pay attention to everything I eat and discovered that some foods I just can't eat..........Lou>> Hi all:> > This is sort of off topic, but I'm wondering if this is an allergic reaction> or something else.> > Every once in awhile when I eat cashews I get a funny taste in my> mouth--like eggs. that is interesting, because I am real allergic to raw potatoes...I

know it is not common to eat raw ones, but I have eaten them since I

was a kid. But as soon as they are cooked, they do not make my mouth

itch and break out. I wonder what cooking does to these offenders?

You can be allergic to

carrots, raw carrots? HOW? I've never heard of that, when I was eating

I ate alot of carrots and celery with peanut butter, that was before

last Saturday that is, Allergic reactions are so crazy and from first

hand experience a life or death situation. I'm just glad it wasn't my

time to go, I can't imagine how that would have effected my 10 year old

who would not leave my side during the attack/allergic reaction, he

would have been scarred for life over that. Please don't' put yourself

in harms way with the food issue.

you know I wonder, my

allergist told me to stop taking the Xyzal during the winter, no sooner

than I came off of it the sinus, ear infections came on, then the

allergic reaction last week. Just a thought

It's just so random with me. I am allergic to honeydew, but not

cantaloupe. I am allergic to shellfish and seafood, but more allergic

to freshwater fish than seawater fish. Sometimes I can't eat raw

carrots or celery, sometimes I can. In fact, the last time I ate a raw

carrot--and I just took one bite--my throat closed and I could not

speak a word for 12 hours.

I generally stay away from the things that I know will give me a bad

day like seafood, but it seems like everyday there's a new allergy. And

then there's some allergies I've totally outgrown like peaches and

coconut. I just don't want to end up in the hospital again.

Man, it's going to be hard to give up cashews because they're my

favorite nut, but I think you and Terry are right and I should avoid

them. I am already a vegetarian, pretty soon the only thing I'm going

to be able to eat is lettuce and water. And sometimes water breaks me

out in hives.

On a side note, I just got a call yesterday from the insurance company

that I can start xolair again! Yippee!

Hi Terry,

I so agree with you...peanuts are a different story. Peanuts are not

real nuts..they are a legume. You can safely eat peanut butter, but

walnuts, pecans, cashews...any tree nut falls into the same category as

shell fish, and some fruits like avacodos, cantalope... all shell

fish...not sea food, but anything that lives in a shell like lobster,

shrimp, and crab legs...these all are a big no no, and you are

right....I teeter on the edge everytime I indulge in them. But peanut

butter with peanuts is a whole total different allergy. But with the

whole peanut butter recall....lets all stop buying that too LOL.

I have been where you were.....used to eat tons of crab legs, shrimp

and lobster. And then one fatal night I cooked lobster tails, and wound

up in the hospital some 4 hours later, and they told me to never eat

them again or anything else that lived in a shell. It did make my mouth

itch, the same that avacados and cantoloupe and pecans and walnuts do.

I am looking at what you just posted, and am thinking that my time is

just around the corner if I continue to persist in indulging in my

favorite guacomole dip or the avacodo that I bring home and devour. The

itch is intense in my mouth....... .

Being allergic to carrots, I can't even imagine. I am a vegetarian becuase I have an allergy to meat protien, so if I became allergic to vegetables the only thing left to eat would be dorities.

Maybe it is the water. I have to use filtered water or I get sick.

You guys are really enlightening me with all this. I love my veggies raw. I need to stop taking the Benadryl so I can have the allergy testing done again on Tuesday instead of having to go all the way back to this office

that is interesting, because I am real allergic to raw potatoes...I know it is not common to eat raw ones, but I have eaten them since I was a kid. But as soon as they are cooked, they do not make my mouth itch and break out. I wonder what cooking does to these offenders?hugs,Cindicarol caruso wrote:

You can be allergic to carrots, raw carrots? HOW? I've never heard of that, when I was eating I ate alot of carrots and celery with peanut butter, that was before last Saturday that is, Allergic reactions are so crazy and from first hand experience a life or death situation. I'm just glad it wasn't my time to go, I can't imagine how that would have effected my 10 year old who would not leave my side during the attack/allergic reaction, he would have been scarred for life over that. Please don't' put yourself in harms way with the food issue.

you know I wonder, my allergist told me to stop taking the Xyzal during the winter, no sooner than I came off of it the sinus, ear infections came on, then the allergic reaction last week. Just a thought

I am allergic to honeydew, but not cantaloupe. I am allergic to shellfish and seafood, but more allergic to freshwater fish than seawater fish. Sometimes I can't eat raw carrots or celery, sometimes I can. In fact, the last time I ate a raw carrot--and I just took one bite--my throat closed and I could not speak a word for 12 hours.I generally stay away from the things that I know will give me a bad day like seafood, but it seems like everyday there's a new allergy. And then there's some allergies I've totally outgrown

like peaches and coconut. I just don't want to end up in the hospital again.Man, it's going to be hard to give up cashews because they're my favorite nut, but I think you and Terry are right and I should avoid them. I am already a vegetarian, pretty soon the only thing I'm going to be able to eat is lettuce and water. And sometimes water breaks me out in hives. On a side note, I just got a call yesterday from the insurance company that I can start xolair again! Yippee!

Hi Terry,I so agree with you...peanuts are a different story. Peanuts are not real nuts..they are a legume. You can safely eat peanut butter, but walnuts, pecans, cashews...any tree nut falls into the same category as shell fish, and some fruits like avacodos, cantalope... all shell fish...not sea food, but anything that lives in a shell like lobster, shrimp, and crab legs...these all are a big no no, and you are right....I teeter on the edge everytime I indulge in them. But peanut butter with peanuts is a whole total different allergy. But with the whole peanut butter recall....lets all stop buying that too LOL.I have been where you were.....used to eat tons of crab legs, shrimp and lobster. And then one fatal night I cooked lobster tails, and wound up in the hospital some 4 hours later, and they told me to never eat them again or anything else that lived in a shell. It did make my mouth itch, the same that avacados and cantoloupe and

pecans and walnuts do. I am looking at what you just posted, and am thinking that my time is just around the corner if I continue to persist in indulging in my favorite guacomole dip or the avacodo that I bring home and devour. The itch is intense in my mouth....... .Cindi

After what I went through last Saturday with the Walnuts that I've NEVER tested positive for I'd say STAY AWAY FROM ALL NUTS!!!!!!!! ! Yes you can only react intestional like that, reactions can come in the form of what I had itching, welts, swelling, not being able to breath to intestional upset. Please, I beg of you stay away from those nuts ALL NUTS!!!!!!!! !!Terry from MD>> Could be an allergy, but i would talk to the dr about this and see if they can test you for it .> > CAROL CARUSO> > http://seattlepi. nwsource. com/local/ 324801_cleaning2 4.html>

It's not all the time, and it doesn't matter what brand. Anyway, on Tuesday, I ate just a few cashews from Whole Foods (it's their store brand). Usually, when I have a food allergy, I either break out in hives, or my throat closes up. I've never experienced anything like this before. I started to wonder if maybe the cashews were contaminated like the peanuts? I'm

just now feeling up to 65%. I don't remember when I got tested for allergies if cashews were on the list. I know I have a slight allergy to peanuts.
