Guest guest
Isn’t there a lot of biology in natural law? The purpose of intercourse throughout all of the species is babies. That is biology for sure. And aren’t there hormones released during orgasm (oxytocin) that create a bonding? Thus, making Natural Law philosophy backed up by biology. I’m just asking. That is just how it seems to me. Of course it is, but when sought for itself becomes stultifying. Letting go, thinking of the partner rather than oneself leads to joy, which is the fruit of happiness.. of a much higher order than pleasure.. pleasure can be transmuted into transcendence when one realizes what causes it, and doesn't stay stuck in it. We need to acknowledge than natural law is philosophy, not biology. I believe in it, but it needs to be seen as part of the construct of what it means to be human. And that's a whole exploration. In our own work we see that when people discover the that their body has its own truth as shown in the fertility pattern, for instance, they view themselves differently. They realize that they ARE their bodies, that the body is not just a means of fulfilling desires, an instrument. It's the whole argument about the nature of the human, and of truth. I can teach NFP without ever bringing in religion, but what I teach does not conflict with religion. Women want to give themselves fully when they love, and be accepted fully. That includes their fertility. When one has to withhold it as with a pill or barrier one is the victim of a double message. The gesture is one of complete self-giving, but the reality is the opposite...
