Guest guest
I'm working with a 3 year old, beginning learner using Verbal Behavior teaching (VB) guided by the ABLLS. He used to LOVE going into the backyard to swing, run, and play in sandbox. Since July 4th he has been afraid to go out back. This may be associated with fireworks or loud air force planes, but we are not positive what caused this fear. When we suggest 'let's go swing' or suggest 'let's go out the back door', he engages in negative behaviors, usually screaming. He will go out the front door and is happily exploring the front yard, labeling, following receptive directions, etc. We are trying to 'fade' him back into the backyard but are not having success. We have tried offering to eat favorite snacks on the back patio. Once I was successful running around the yard one time, with him on my shoulders, then back to the front yard. After this first time, he has begun screaming/kicking when we approch the gate. There is crying and hugging involved which indicate fear as the cause. Any suggestions on how to overcome this fear would be great! We would love to see him enjoy the backyard this fall! Thanks,
