Guest guest
I wanted to add that these cue cards can also lead to early literacy because you can lay the cards down in a row and 1. have the child label/tact them and reinforce with completely different though power reinforcer (Read: Juice, movie, apple, clay, book) mix them up to avoid rote learning but have many words present. 2. add other cue cards of articles and phrases and teach and reinforce that with the payoff of the reinforcer on the card (I want to drink juice -> I like juice -> Juice tastes good.) 3. teach it all to fluency, pair with sign and then begin to fade and transfer it to vocal behavior or sign to enhance communication while continuing to bring in new cue cards to increase vocabulary...and teaching ANYTHING under the mand/I want condition is the easiest, as we all know. My son has a difficult time coming under the control of an echoic prompt so transfer never happened well and prompt dependency was an issue. Needless to say, he remained a " a no/low rate speaker/beginner learner " for years...written/visual is much easier - - words being the easiest, it seems. It is opening up a new world for him...words. mom to Tillman (9)
