no IgG results after all

I promised I would post to the list and say whether my 10-year-old's IgG results matched her chiropractor's predictions based on muscle testing. Well. We went in today for the blood test...but couldn't get any blood. She had had the EMLA cream applied about an hour earlier...but the EMLA wasn't working and the phlebotomist seemed utterly incompetent; she missed the vein, was terribly upsetting to my totally cooperative 10-year-old, and then she wanted to try getting blood from a hand...at which point I said, Nope, sorry, this was your one chance to draw blood from this child today...

So she gave us the kit and suggested we have it done at our regular doctor's lab...fat chance! I can't imagine subjecting this child to another blood test attempt so soon after this botched one. Maybe we will try it with our favorite (but very expensive) chiropractor, who I think might do pediatric blood draws, after we've had some time to get over today's trauma. In the meantime I may have to put my foot down with my DH and say, look, we're not getting scientific results any time soon; maybe we should try basing her diet on the muscle testing results and see if THAT makes a difference. We've never actually tried modifying her diet much using those results because my DH was so horrified that I took her to a quack to get muscle testing done.

Interesting result of our visit today, though--though the lab technician was horrible, the nurse and doctor we saw were very good, and they suspect what I've also been suspecting for a long time, which is that my 10-year-old might also be constipated, and that might be causing her bedwetting. She has some symptoms of it (though it's certainly not nearly as severe as in my four-year-old's case), and the family history is definitely there. The nurse began listing natural treatments for constipation for me, and to every supplement she suggested, I was saying, " Oh, yes, we have some of that at home... " In fact, I could have added other things to their list of suggestions... She also suggested we look into the low oxalate diet. She said, " You've probably never heard of oxalates... " Um, yes, I have. So, basically, everything that they charged me $250 (plus three hours of my time if I include the appointment itself and the driving time) to find out, I already knew from this list.

Sigh...Bonnie
