Guest guest
Hi there, I am lucky enough that I can choose to sleep in the day and be up all night and I prefer it that way. Daylight just hurts me soo much that I am constantly cranky..... I have done this for quite some time. Some friends even call me " dracula " . Besides m.e. makes it hard to sleep at night anyway. Anybody else does this? Anybody else's mood much better in the night because of less irritations? (traffic noise, daylight....)

Lizzie, I completely relate to sleeping all day, awake at night. I congratulate your willingness to be different and discuss it. I admire your willingness to honor your own body's cues, discovering what works best for you. Such dedication to taking care of yourself is likely to reap worthwhile rewards You may find there is more to the nightowl story than you suspect. CFS & ME & FMS & related conditions all share symptoms causing patients to be extraordinarily sensitive to stress. Getting up in am was so hard for me growing up, I was, drawn to evening jobs. I and my family assumed I was a night owl. Now, with years of learning what my lifetime problems of the autonomic nervous system (Dysautonomia) mean and finding ways to remedy symptoms and calm down my autonomic nervous system which seems stuck in fight or flight, unable to stop using adrenaline to simply wash my face much less to deal with real dangers like a car careening in my direction..... Ok, that was a very long hyper-adrenaline type of sentence. Let me take a (shallow, non-autonomic nervous system- challenging) breath and start again. Used to accept I was a " night owl. " Now, with time (living on disability) to better understand lifelong, worsening conditions trying various avenues of relief, I have a new idea. I now awaken with the rising sun. Depends on prior days' activities, of course. Sometimes I remain awake at 4:30 am, sleeping until afternoon. Like you, I feel no stress over staying awake all night. Like you, I am fortunate to feel free to follow my body's cues. I am pleased to discover I'm am more normal than I ever knew. On my best days, like yesterday for instance, which was a very enjoyable calm day, I am a morning person awake as light first broke, awake and comfortable all day (performing non-physical activities), asleep by midnight. I continue to discover ways to calm my hyper-adrenergic autonomic nervous system enjoying relief along the way. I enjoy awakening with the sun, one with the dawn of day as our most ancient ancestors, and many creatures of nature have always done. Your body's cues are intelligent, worthy of close attention. Night is calmer than day. Night is what you can handle right now. Take care, toni
