If her diet is heavily soy, she might want to consider reducing her consumption of it. Because I control my thyroid dosage myself, I can adjust for diet changes if necessary. Fluoride also interferes with thyroid, so I don't drink fluoridated water (natural or artificial) but I don't refuse to drink tea because tea contains fluoride.........(all tea that is the species camellia contains fluoride because it only thrives in soil with fluoride). Another tea, not a camellia species, that contains fluoride is Rooibos. Raw cabbage and broccoli and other crucifers are goitrogens............it is all a balance. If one is taking supplemental thyroid hormone medication, probably the dosage one is on was " automatically " adjusted to accomodate the diet the person was eating when the dosage was titrated. The problem comes in when changes are made without realizing that such changes can affect one's thyroid function and dosage of thyroid meds. Minerals such as selenium have thyroid supporting effects, selenium also interacts with iodine, and the two must be in balance. Progesterone supports thyroid. Estrogen blocks thyroid........it is all very interconnected and very complicated............I am still sorting it all out for myself, and I believe the balance for every individual will be different. sol
