This came across in another yahoo group and thought I would pass on the thought. I think we've dicussed the importance of calcium with magnesium, but this might just another reminder why.

*****Magnesium in the cell is largely associated with ATP, as the complexMg-ATP. When ATP is "used" or converted to ADP, this lower-energysubstance associates with calcium, as Ca-ADP. In a hypothyroid state, the energy charge can be depleted by stress, causing cells to losemagnesium. ATP is less stable when it isn't complexed with magnesium,so the stress-induced loss of magnesium makes the cell moresusceptible to stress, by acting as a chronic background stimulation, forcing the cell to replace the ATP which is lost because of itsinstability. In this state, the cell takes up an excess of calcium.*******

When the intestines are bombarded with toxins and/or are working so hard to produce a bowel movement, they get stressed out. I think this might be a reason why calcium is so important with the magnesium. Yes? Am I understanding this info right?

I always find this topic very confusing because I've read that excess calcium causes constipation - so finding the proper ratio of calcium-magnesium is necessary. How do you even begin to determine the ratio your child has and needs for individual minerals. It seems like a moving target, no?
