See below. Someone asked that I present her case to the group. I will forward all replies to her. Sheila

I need advice and direction on how to treat my medical condition. I am Roman Catholic woman who is 40 years old and have four children and one miscarriage in my OB history. I am having very heavy periods and passing large clots with bad back pain. My periods range from 28 days to 21 days apart. I had a recent pelvic ultrasound which found a thickening of the lining of my uterus. Adeomyosis (sp?) I think I spelled that right? Anyway, my doctor thinks it is because of all the scar tissue from four previous c-sections and previous uterine surgeries for fibroids. The problem is my red blood count is 12. That is below normal, so he has me on mega iron doses, SLO-Fe, which is not fun on the GI system.

The options that my doctor gave me were:

1.) "Take the birth control pill to control the heavy bleeding and stop all the heavy clots that I pass each month,

or 2.) Have an ablation procedure under general to burn away the lining of my entire uterus. He claims that I'd have to have my tubes tied or husband would have to have a vasectomy if I had this procedure,

or 3.) Have a hysterectomy."

He relayed these options to me via his nurse by phone. I told her that none of these sounded like viable options for me.

I have faith that there must be some other option out there to treat my heavy bleeding. Mostly my fear is the heavy clots that I pass, they are like having a heavy miscarriage for three to four days. I have to wear a super-absorbent tampon along with an overnighter pad and change these sometimes hourly, the flow is so heavy. The fatigue I experience when this is going on is debilitating and exhausting and friends notice how pale my facial skin color looks when I am like this.

Have you ever heard of other women having a dilemma like this with medical options like this? I feel "stuck."

Any advice, direction or name of alternative less invasive/risky procedures which respect my Catholic faith would be so appreciated.
