Guest guest
Looks..like Hindustani/Indian Music,has...brought the best from the Bhaskars..Ashok..and yes..Renuka,..as well.,.after many months... Great...write up.,.Ashok.. Not just the..songs..,but I was even surprised..some of the oldie Egyptian..movies,that I would see..on Arabic channels,..had..similar scenes..of Heroes..running around the tree with (Buxom-Typically Egyptian)...heroines,..with the same..dress code..as Rajendra Kumar..or Sunil Dutt..or Dev Anand wore..in the 70's... But,as I a music freak, who listens..to all types of music..which isn't loud on ears...,always would like to believe,THAT,..any music..copied..from anywhere around the world..is OK.,.if it..gives..pleasing..effect to it's listeners..for generations... Yes..Gaata rahe..mera dil..aur..chalta rahein..aapka email...Ashok.. On that note,ur dream of a 24 hr music channel shouldn't been a distant one..as U have..a24hrs..so many..free Indian.radio on line..minus..the anchors..in some..playing the 60's..to 2000's era songs..each day.. plus..u could also..download..satellite radio..free software..on ur handPC...and get...free songs...from any of their free stations..including Asia...on the go... See,there..I have..instantly..eased..ur..need..for a 24 hrs..music station..in Chicago... To,Ravin, Nice of..both the master copiers,..Anu Mallik..and Bappi Lahiri..to quote that way... Yes..MODERN TALKING...was one..English album,..which Bappida..would often lift his.tunes..from....and..had it not been for that, blatant act of plagiarism.,aaj Ameet would sadly, not have had the pleasure of making MITHUNDA..his IDOL..for life..(Ha Ha Ha)...and seeing his movies..there in Dayton...USA.. Bye. Shyam(84) Copycat Bollywood tunes...!!! To: mgimsyahoogroups (DOT) com, MGIMS1993batch@ yahoogroups. com Date: Saturday, January 17, 2009, 11:35 PM Friends, We are the great nation of Bollywood, and we do take pride in our Hindi film music... although we disagree on which era of film music is the greatest, we agree on the fact that many of the songs are " inspired " . We all know that there is a total lack of originality when it comes to composing our " filmi " music in the 80's, 90's with the advent of Bappi Lahiri copying the disco hits from 80's and went downhill with the great Anu Malik who copied English and Pakistani songs.... and Pritam Chakraborty took plagiarism to new heights by " lifting " songs from Turkish, African, Korean and every " non-hindi " source of music you can think of..... however, there are some songs that are embedded in our memories, that we never imagine could have been copied because that are very popular, and hold special memories in our hearts...... .so, imagine my trauma when I discovered that some of the memorable songs from the 80's films are actually " lifts " and boy.. did that jolt me..!!! So, here are two such songs.. I am going to give you links to the " youtube " videos of the originals... and you will surely guess which the the " adapted " hindi song.. so... here we go....!!! 1) This is one of those lifts, mainly because the Hindi track is a very cherished song that brings back memories of my high school and college days every time I hear it. Here's the original.... .. http://www.youtube. com/watch? v=cowp0eP8VOo It is by a " one hit wonder " from the 80's by the name of Joyce Sims... she had a great voice, and the track did fairly ok on the US charts, which inspired our own bollywood jodi of Nadeem-Shravan to copy it for the " mukhda " for one of their popular songs from their " breakthrough movie " . Although I must give Nadeem-Shravan brownie points since they copied only the mukhda.. the rest of the song is still original. But again, why would you copy someone else's tune for your very first movie? Also the original " intro " which was copied has two lines, while the " mukhda " of the copied song has four lines... so thats some " change " ... but guys, its easy to still figure out the " copy " .. can you guess, which is the copied song? 2) OK.. song #2 would rate as one of the most heart-breaking " copied songs " ever.. just because the songs of this film hold a special place in our hearts... we all have hummed songs from this particular movie some time in our life.. and not to mention, the number of times, we as avid movie watchers have seen this movie..!!!I also have to say, that this particular " lift " is so damn blatant that you almost think that the instrumental piece you see here on the youtube link is simply an instrumental version of the Hindi film track. OK.. so here it is... the song is called " Return to the Alamo " and it is an instrumental track by a famous British band called " The Shadows " .. so check this out...... http://www.youtube. com/watch? v=OwK_wkFWCLQ As you can see in the comments on the video, many of us would be compelled to think that original listed above is nothing but an instrumental version of the Hindi track. However.. the original song was recorded in 1977 according to some serious internet research.... .. 10 years before the Hindi film was released and the music directors got " paid " for the job.... well, I dont even have to ask you guys to guess, which was the " lifted " Hindi song.. for the simple reason.. we all know it...!!! cheers Ameet 1993
