Title: Woman reveals struggle with chronic fatigue (Aberdeen Press and

Journal, 11 May 2009)

Contains: A North-east woman who suffers from the chronic fatigue condition

ME has spoken of her battle to live with it, as ME Awareness Week started

yesterday ...... Irene Lavety, of Aberdeen, said: “I was exhausted. It was

like I couldn’t chew, my jaws were too tired. When someone talked to me I

would fall asleep.” ..... There is no cure and it can last for years but

most people with ME see an improvement in their symptoms with time. Doctors

recommend patients pace themselves, advice which worked for Mrs Lavety ....

“Friends have to understand if I can’t do anything. I have lost a lot of

friends, people who just don’t understand, who think I’m just a malingerer.

A lot of people knock you. There is a lot of prejudice.” ...... The exact

cause of ME is unknown but people with it often have abnormalities in their

immune and nervous systems and it can be triggered by viral infections such

as glandular fever.

address given above, as the more of us who submit one, the greater is the

chance of at least one getting published. And please don't think that,

because you have seen someone make the same point(s) as you were planning,

you needn't repeat it. Please DO repeat the points that affect us all, in

addition to your own, or it will underestimate the strength of feeling there

is.
