Guest guest
Hi Norma ... welcome to the group. It is quite natural to feel that way. I most certainly did after I was diagnosed in 1999. But there is no reason to give up hope. The disease takes a long time to do its dirty work and there is much research going on. The best thing at this point in time is knowledge. I assume that your son has shown positive on an HCV antibody test which shows he's been exposed. I am not a doctor but in my opinion it is time for a PCR to see if the virus is there and genotype it. If the PCR is positive then it's time for a liver biopsy. That will tell how much liver damage there is and how much inflammation there is. Everyone here agrees that the information the biopsy provides is crucial when weighing treatment options. It took two rounds of treatment but I am 98% confident the virus has been eradicated. Don't give up hope. FIGHT! Doug > new here > > Hello > > My son has just had a blood report come back positive to > hep C. He goes for another test in 3 months. I am newly Dx as well, found out 2 months ago about HCV and me. I can tell you, I felt as though I was handed a death sentence. I am a retired health care worker, and probably got infected that way, not sure as I was always careful. Many people never really know how they got infected. That's not what is important now. There is so much research going on right now, it's very promising that in 2 years a new treatment will be out. I'll try to find the study on it and give you the addy. My doctor said I wasn't a good candidate for the current treatment, due to my depression and I agree with him. I'm feeling much less freaked out now than I was when I first got the news. Thanks for sharing your concerns, we will all keep you in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless, Cat> > > > > >
