Guest guest
Hi all, My name is Tom Lennon. The series referred to here contains a documentary film about my son's life (and strife) following a surfing accident at age 17, when his surfboard snapped back on the end of its leash and struck him like a battering ram in the right forehead. His behavior changed immediately following the accident but was not recognized as TBI related behavior until much later (some 11 years). I became involved in neurofeedback in an attempt to assist my son's recovery/ rehabilitation since he has never been drug compliant unless forced to be. I made a believer out of him when I was able to quell the side effects of his " forced " medications (uncontrolled shaking of the hands and legs). I've had limited small successes with him and the brain training as it relates to his impulsivity and disinhibition. He continues to get into trouble, is currently in jail awaiting transfer to a state hospital to be made " competent " to stand trial, where he is facing a felony charge for 'petty theft with a prior' offense. It is so clear to me that his organic disability is at the base of all his problems. From time to time we come across someone in the system who " gets it " and recognizes the TBI but they are still in the " system " and the system is just not set up to respond appropriately. They keep heaping on more punishment thinking that he'll just have to learn a lesson. But he doesn't learn lessons. He operates from an " all green lights " perspective, everything's great! and if life gives him a negative response he converts it to positive by filtering it through his ongoing delusion (which his mind created to survive a 5 month isolation period in prison) that he's being filmed by satellites so the whole world can see how he and those like him are being treated and the world won't stand for it any longer. I hope a good number of you will watch the movie. I'd love to hear from anyone who has any input to offer. The film is called " A Revolving Door " . It made the short list of 8 films considered for an Academy Award this year. If you " google " A Revolving Door Tommy Lennon you can watch clips of the film. There is also a blog that has been started that you can participate in. Guest guest
Wow, Tom, what an ordeal. I think TBI is hugely under-diagnosed and under-treated. Your son is lucky to have your understanding, compassion, and help.guitom1@... wrote: Hi all,My name is Tom Lennon.
