Guest guest
Hello All,I have been treating a 40 yo female patient with familial hypercholesterolemia for several months. Her father died of an MI at age 33 as a result of being untreated. She is, of course, still on her meds (which in her case do work to control her lipids somewhat). We have done a lot to clear her liver with UNDAs and gemmos . We are also using phytosterols (ColSterol during the day and Biotone at night), high dose fish oil, Co Q10and a modified anti inflammatory diet. She is faithful with the BTGs. She is trim in build, and is working to increase her exercise routine. I'm not convinced that red rice yeast is any better than the statin drugs, so we won't be switching there unless someone changes my mind. I have tested her CRP, which was nice and low. She is doing great, but I'm wondering what more I can do for her. She has a balanced temperament and her main complaint at this point is her hypertonic back muscles (which I suspect her job as an animal trainer and the statins might both be contributing to). Unless she has weekly massage she is uncomfortable. I have tried cell salts, UNDA #s, lonicera, all to unwind this a bit, with slight success. Do any of you have ideas about how to help her with this issue? To complicate matters, I am seeing her son as a new patient this week. He is, of course, at age 6, on statins too. What are people's thoughts about this? What is best for children with this condition? I will treat him as an individual of course, but any ideas for the cholesterol piece would be appreciated.
