Guest guest
Hello all...I did post this last week but never got a response...so here is the recap with the question... My orthopod and pain clinic are fighting over my pain control. The pain doc does not want me taking any of the meds the ortho gave me...which really runs the gamit and is quite a bit BUT the ortho got mad and told me to take his drugs since the pain clinic was obviously not controlling my pain. I am sure that all of you are familiar with pain clinic's making you sign a contract with them about your treatment and pain meds. While I have followed this to the letter except for recently, by taking the surgeon's drugs, I suspect that they will kick me out. If this happens...1 - Will they notify other pain clinics in town about this so that I am locked out of all care? 2 - They want to see the med bottles from the ortho so that they can count the pills...I have taken the doses just to ease the pain. Will they blood or urine test me if I do not have the bottles just to see if I am taking his drugs? I am so nervous about this appointment but would rather let the two doctors fight it out together and just tell me what the long term plan is going to be. I like my pain doctor for the most part and don't want to go through changing but I will if I have to. This all started last Wednesday and I have called both doctors and neither has responded about a conversation that may ahve taken place. I am assuming that since I have not heard from either doctor that the conversation has not happened and now probably won't because of the severe weather. Thanks for your repsonse and input... I think the problem is, that there *are* no set answers to your questions. Each pain clinic will be different. Your answers can only be given by your own doctors and clinic. > My orthopod and pain clinic are fighting over my pain control. This totally *sucks*. It must be awful. I'm really sorry for you. > I am sure that all of you are familiar with pain clinic's making you > sign a contract with them about your treatment and pain meds. If you promised to do something and didn't, they would be reasonable to do so. > If this happens...1 - Will they notify other pain clinics in town > about this so that I am locked out of all care? I doubt it. I don't know for sure though. Pain clinics in different countries may be different, too. In Australia I would be very unsure. > 2 - They want to see the med bottles from the ortho so that they can > count the pills...I have taken the doses just to ease the pain. Nothing compells you to let them unless you did. I would take the bottles, if I were you. Explain that you have taken just enough medication to cope with the extreme pain. Explain as graphically as you can how the pain affects you, what it stops you from doing (eg can't sleep because pain is so severe, can't think, can't ... etc.) > I am so nervous about this appointment but would rather let the two > doctors fight it out together and just tell me what the long term > plan is going to be. Could you possible write a letter to BOTH of them explaining how much difficulty they are causing you, how much pain you are in, etc etc etc? > Ricky...I have been reading your posts...hang in there! Thanks a lot, hon. *big hugs* I'm feeling really a lot for you - you make sure that you hang in there too, okay? Guest guest
Hi Virginia: I wouldn't make any assumptions about doctors if it were me in your situation. I think it is truly ridiculous that two doctors would be disagreeing about how a patient should be treated. If you are in pain and the pain doctor is helping with that pain and you like him, why would you drop him? There are probably a number of other orthopedists who don't have an attitude problem. Doctors are supposed to work together to help the patient - not fight over which of them is right or wrong. You really don't need the stress these guys are causing you.
