Guest guest
I recently had my cerebral tonsils removed d/t having severe headaches for approximately 14 years. (I am only 37). These headaches also caused facial palsy on the right side. During my surgery, two veins in the spinal column collapsed. After administering medicine for this, the veins " pinked up " . While doing the surgery (Dr. Sekula and Dr. Janetta) from Allegheny General in Pittsburgh), they discovered that my spinal cord split at the T-12 and is also tethered. In addition, once I was out of surgery and in recovery for 10 hours (severe vomiting) they were transferring me to a gurney to go to ICU. At that time I discovered that I could not move my legs and had no feeling. I am told that this was from the brain stem swelling so much as well as the blanching of the veins. Long story short, I was told that I had Chiari. I am able to walk again unaided, but still have very limited feeling in my right leg especially as well as numbness in the pelvic area that wraps around to my back side. Sitting can sometimes be a trial as I have to be " planted " on a firm surface and pay attention that I don't slide and fall. (I've done this a few times). I guess my question is this: Is this normal?? I don't have a lot of information on this and have been doing my therapy on my own. (Lots and lots of walking). If anyone has any comments or information that will help me not to feel so helpless, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
