Guest guest
I've gone thru two storms on my own (widowed) and it's not fun. Is there anyone you can go stay with? Having company makes it more bearable (not to mention having a margarita as a little courage builder). In '05, when Hurricane Jeanne came up to N Fla., the eye passed six miles east of me--and it was still a Cat One. Of course I didn't have electricity, but had one of those wind-up radios, so that was somewhat comforting. Still, I could hear trees and branches coming down outside, my whole house was creaking and groaning and I was almost sure that I'd lose the roof. But everything turned out fine. Afterwards, I took my standard poodle and went to the nearest Red Roof Inn for two days so I could shower, sleep, and be cool and comfy. My home electricity wasn't back on for six days and my phone was out almost that long. I'm a strong believer in positive thinking (tho don't always practice it!). There are some dry cold fronts starting to move south and it's possible Ike will be steered west of us. Keep telling yourself that ( " go west, young Ike " ) lol. I'm a fifth-generation native Floridian and it works best if you get in synch and accept that it is what it is--a crazy, buggy, alligatory, humid/hot/hurricane place. 'Canes play an important part in the state's ecosystem by flushing out the various bays along the coasts. That nourishes the areas that produce our nice little sea food--like grouper, shrimp, scallops, crabs, oysters, etc. Keep extra medication on hand, too. Feel free to write me off list if you get up tight or lonesome. Misery loves company! --marty > Marty Ike has me worried too.
