Hi All,

What are your programs doing about paying for donor yearly follow up blood work?

Is this paid through the cost report? For how long after the transplant?

Appreciate any advice.

All of our donor follow up visits including bloodwork are being billed to our

cost report for a lifetime. I have yet to bill a donor for services related to

donor nephrectomy.

Hi,

In our opinion, the annual follow-up for

donors is not an allowable expense for the cost report.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill, thanks for your response. As a followup, what is the " magic " time frame

for donor followup - is it 6 mos, 9 mos or 12 mos when it comes to claiming the

charges on the cost report?

HI,

I believe that the services rendered in the first 6 months are not a

problem. When it goes over 6 months, the documentation must be persuasive

that it is donation related. That means things like hernias and other

issues over 6 months must be well documented for Medicare to allow the cost.

Hope this helps,

Thanks,

Bill
