Guest guest
Not sure where you live, but be safe and be tested for Lyme Disease. If you are having as many cognitive issues as you say, you may have Lyme Disease and the infection may have progressed to your brain. Unfortunately for me, I was tested too late and the LD killed my immune system which I believe caused my Hashi's. Best to mark Lyme off the list as a problem. Your story is unbelivably similar to mine! The progression is slow but steady with LD. -------------- Original message from "mikeandpaul2003" : -------------- hi ive been reading as many posts as i can on this board and its getting a bit overwhelming. Would love to have somecommon sense advice on what to do next.My mom and my grandma were both diagnosed with Hashimoto's in their 40's. Mom and grandma both take Synthromax and neither complain of symtoms. My grandma had surgery on her thyroid but i dont have details.I am 46 and exhausted all the time. I sleep from 9-11 hrs dailyand wake up tired and cranky.Recently within the last 2 years myshort term memory has deteriorated quickly. i repeat myselfoften, have word retrieval issues( ex. i say a similiar wordpink for red, xmas for halloween)and am very slow to processinformation. I often am confused . I am unable to work asin my field because of memory , concentration and ADD likeattention issues. I feel as tho i am in the very early stages of Alzheimers withmy brain not performing at its usual le vels.First i went to a neurologist for memory issues and he did an MRI of my brain which was perfectly normal. Then i complained to my primary care dr. and he said he would do alotof extensive testing to test my thyroid function. Here are the results of his "extensive tests"TSH 1.64T4 TOTAL 8.5t3 total 147Thyroid Peroxidase less than 10 normalThyroglobulin less than 20 IU/mg normalOk i know from reading this board that he should prob havedone free T3 and free T4 . But, are those last 2 tests antibody tests for Hashimoto? If not can someone name the blood test that tests forantibodies for Hashimoto's?Im guessing the next step is to find an endocrinologistwho can help me . Would someone be kind enough to list what tests I should\insist upon in addition to free t 3 and t4?Any and all advise and comments would be appreciated. Guest guest
Look up hashimoto encephalopathy and see how many of those symptoms you have...I know I have more than the normal brain fog....in fact if each symptom had a scale of 1-10 each of mine would be a 10. -- Re: newbie here - would welcome some basic advice Not sure where you live, but be safe and be tested for Lyme Disease. Guest guest
I'm a newbie too. I'm still learning what tests are what. So I can't really give you advice on what test to demand. But I have the EXACT same symptoms you do. If I sit down I will fall asleep. I swear I could sleep 20 hours a day. My brain is in a major fog. For example I was driving home yesterday on a VERY common road and I suddenly didn't know where I was - nothing looked familiar. It was VERY strange to say the least. I had to mentally trace back my steps in my head to figure out where I was, what I was doing and where I was headed. It feels as thought i have ADD or Alzheimers - constanting forgetting, not able to recall common simple information - like my own phone number. I was just diagnosed with Hashis about a month ago. But, I'm considered Euthyroid - tests don't show hyper or hypo - so no one wants to treat me. Or at least I haven't found anyone who will treat me yet. I asked my Primary Care physian about the encephalitis part and he said that I couldn't have it or I'd be in the hospital in intense pain. However, this is the same Dr. who pooh-pooed my intial symptoms and only ran tests on me to shut me up. Then when they came back whacked out he back burnered the Thyroid part of it. I had to refer myself to an Endo and he found the Hashi. So, take that with a grain of salt.. I am. So, just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. Find an Endo and then if you have to, find another one. I have an appt. with a new one next week at UCLA and if I don't like him, I've got another one with someone else scheduled for October - but I'm hoping they'll move me up!
