Colds & Flu - how does metabolism/hashi's relate?

Hi everyone,

I've always thought it strange that I hardly EVER get a cold. I'm 37

years old...and, no lie, I got my first cold when I was 33 years old.

And now I only get one every other year...and it barely phases me.

Even my mom admits that she can NEVER remember me being sick as a

kid...I just didn't get colds like other kids.

I have had bouts with strep (bacterial) all my life but seem to have an

uncanny resistance to colds/flu (viruses).

Anyway, I have wondered lately if maybe the effect that hashi's has on

metabolism might be related somehow. I mean, does a virus NEED a good

metabolism to take hold? Maybe the rate at which cells

reproduce/divide or something like that? I wonder if a SLOW metabolism

might make it harder for these viruses to thrive? And would that mean

that people with hashi's (or any kind of hypothyrodism) are more

resistant to colds?

I'm just curious...wonder if anyone here has discussed this kind of

thing before...or if any of you notice the same thing (a high

resistance to colds).

Honestly, I don't think your unusual resistance to viruses has anything

to do with Hashi's. I have Hashi's/hypothyroid/severe adrenal fatigue

and was always extremely susceptible to cold and flu viruses, catching

every one that wafted by me, and taking forever to get over them.

I believe this is a genetic resistance you have, because I have a 93

year old friend who has never had a cold or flu even once in her entire

life. She just simply does not catch them.

hi

i have had hashis since chilodhooodl

i worked in a pharmacy

<MOST years i worked in pharmacies .i did not catch a cold or the

flu..

however,, the few years i caught a cold or the flu

i got hit BIGTIME..

like when theflu went theur he phramacy (as we called it ;)

i lost from both ends (surreal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

for 24 hrs.

then i just did not have an appetite for 27 days........

..lost 28 lbs. during that time (and i was not overweight --even tho

hypothryodi on t4-only for 15 years.....and miserable the whole time)

finally after about a month .. of *Ttrying to eat..

i slowly started having an appetite and gaining aback the weight i

lost.....

i belive *Now that i was -at the time- hit so hard by the flu

-that i became LOW cortisol....

tho previously i belive NOW that i was h8igh cortsiol for m ost of

that time i was miserable on syntroid and HIGH cortisol..

...

there may be *something to folks whose ADRENALS are not being

challanged but who are nevertheless HYPOthyroriod.

dunnoe for sure
