Guest guest
Hiya B! Welcome to the 24 hours and counting club! My record is 5 full days without a wink of sleep, after which I slept for two days straight. With all the meds I'm on, my ol' bod just isn't sure what its supposed to be doing anymore! From what I understand, sleeplessness is common amoung us Heppers, even without treatment, so I wouldn't worry too much if you lose a few winks. As for the biopsy, I'd say bite the bullet and get it done sweety. Mine was a bit more painful than most (being a big guy, they had to hunt around a bit), but other than being sore for a few days I was fine afterwards. There is quite a bit of info the Doc needs to know locked away in your little liver, and a biopsy is really the quickest and easiest way to get to it. Oh, if you continue to have serious trouble sleeping, talk to your doctor, they have ways of making you snooze! Peace, D
Guest guest
B, Biops are a piece of cake ... worst thing about them is the anxiety we unnecessarily put ourselves through before hand. docs should give patients a list of recent biops who are willing to share how easy it was, (IMHO) They provide useful information as opposed to unfounded fears, myths and anxieties. Have one and demand a lolly pop! Bob Drury

The main thing is to get pain management for the biopsy. I got it for the biopsy itself, but they only gave me tylenol afterwards, even though at that point there was a lot of pain. The reason: hcv is often the result of drug abuse. Stinks, but there ya have it. If I ever went through it again, I'd (a) choose a different hospital and ( make sure they don't have " pain management " from Saddam's torture rooms. Once I was able to sit up, I made the pain go away by myself. (Reiki and QiGong methods can be most helpful with pain.) But when they had me at a disadvantage, I was at their mercy, or lack of it. I don't want to scare anyone who needs a liver biopsy. Just the opposite--an informed patient is a patient is more likely to have a good hospital experience. I didn't know which questions to ask, so maybe this will help others. Always make sure you know what the hospital's notion of pain management is, and what their attitudes are towards hcv. If not favorable, educate them--but make sure you get the pain meds if you need them.
