Hi folks

Just wondered if anyone has had any success treating RSD? Currently have a patient whose partner has it, thought I'd give her some encouraging words but I have heard many greats out there say this is a tough one and I have never come across it myself.

Thanks in advance

ALicia,I've responded to this a few months ago. There is ALOT that can be done to help: homoepathy, chiropractic/bowen/acupuncture, proteolytic enzymes, anti-inflammatories, adrenal support, lots of sleep, counseling or mind/body support, mediation....a solid & consistent program helps tremendously. If you can one, stop the progression, and then two, slowly recover -- as long as it is consistent progress, be patient. Baby steps are good enough steps. Please check the NDCHAT archives.

I dont' know if you remember, but I had RSD when we were in school. It took A LOT of therapies and a wide variety of them, but I was also to recover in a year (which my neurologist said was unheard of). The prognosis and speed of recovery depends a lot on how quickly you start treatment once symptoms arise, and I found for myself (and for a patient I have now with it), that constantly changing the specific therapies, always working toward your goals, was a must. Use everything you can possibly think of and if a therapy doesn't work at first, you may come back to it later and find it really helpful. Physical medicine is also important to help restore functioning and breakup adhesions and scar tissue, although finding the right person is really important to take those baby steps Sheila mentioned. It is usually the most painful part of the treatment (it was for me!) but is a necessary part.

I wrote my ND thesis on RSD and would be happy to talk with you more. It is really tough to treat, but it can be done.
