Guest guest
Not sure how many of on this list might be involved in arranging for NFP users to get hormone studies, but this might be a big help. At our medical center, we have a lot of infertility clients. More and more, we are having women get hormone studies done using the lab at PPVI. We are in CA. One of the frustrating things has always been finding a lab to prepare serum and plasma specimens properly. If you've done this, you know what I am talking about. Then, even if you do get a lab to cooperate, they are closed on weekends and holidays. No doubt, one of the days that your client will have important labs to be drawn. Anyway, here is my solution. I've done this several times now and it works like a charm. My clients have been much appreciative of being able to do all of this at home on their own. Here is the way that it works... I have this down science. You don't have to be a nurse or doctor, but it helps. It does take some convincing (the doctor, the patient, etc.), but in the end I have found I spend a whole lot less time convincing these folks than trying to teach a lab technician what to do with a faxed page of instructions! My clients have all been much appreciative of this process in the end. I should get some testimonials just to prove that it is as easy as I am saying it is. I think now, that this is the ideal way to do this. If you want to do this, you can download the zip file with everything you need (list of supplies, instructions, powerpoint, etc.) from our website. http://majella.us/fcc/modules/mydownloads/ The file is about 8 Meg due to all the stuff in it. There is a manual in there with color pictures for the different days and there is a mail merge file to print the labels. The instructions should explain everything. It is free. Last week I got a call from a doctor in San Diego that wanted me to start his client on a study (the doctor is about 100 miles from our office). The patient lives out in the high desert (not close to him or me by any stretch). When she called, it was Friday... Q: " When do you need to start? " ... A: " Today " (of course). Anyway, it turns out she has a friend who is a veterinarian that can draw the blood. I had her come down and I drew the first sample of blood (If you are not a nurse and don't have a license to do this then leave this part to whoever the client knows to draw the labs). The way I do this is that I sell a kit with all the supplies ($50), ask for a deposit on the Centrifuge ($30), and then, if I do the first phlebotomy I charge $30 for the blood draw and the training. After that the client goes home with the first samples in a cooler. They will do all the remaining blood draws at home and keep the specimens in their freezer and do the shipping themselves when the menstrual cycle is complete. That is all there is to it. I don't recommend having the person who does the blood draws preparing the serum and plasma specimens. If at all possible, it is best to have the client do this herself. Good luck... No I don't work for PPVI and I am not getting a penny for this (perhaps I should but if this helps you than that can be my reward for right now... but please, if I have such a reward coming then let me know about it!). Just a solution to a problem that has worked well that I thought I would share. -- http://www.majella.us
