Hi , Coffee enemas, to the best of my knowledge, seem

to work in that the caffeine is rapidly absorbed through the hemorrhoidal

veins, travels to the liver and gallbladder and causes bile dumping. Coffee

enemas are typically used in toxic conditions, cancer for instance or during

detoxes, when the ability of the emunctories is severely taxed. The additional

flushing of the bile from the system helps to carry out this additional toxicity. I am not a fan or enemas or colonics, I will

use them, but reserved for specific indications and not for general health and

such. I believe they are far too damaging to the intestinal microflora, and I’ve

seen people get way to obsessed with enemas and colonics and the whole myth of

having “gunk†stuck to the colon walls, which just isn’t

true. I know others use these therapies more liberally and have seen good

results, so go with what sounds reasonable to you. Regarding hypercholesterolemi a, please see

some of my relatively recent posts on Nat Chat. In my opinion, depending on

her cholesterol level, it is unlikely she needs to be treated for the cholesterol

at all. Look to underlying issues and treat them. Regards, Tim Gerstmar, ND Redmond, WA

Hi

All-

I have a patient with hypercholesterolemi a that is considering doing coffee

enemas. I have searched through my notes and books and this list serve to see

about the benefits and drawbacks of coffee enemas and have not found anything

specific. there is a little information on the Gerson institute site but I

wanted to hear what you think.

Are there any drawbacks to doing this therapy. Is there anything that I should

advise the patient on. What is the recommended frequency of them. And anything

else that is pertinent.

Thank you!
