When I was a movie buff - Shyam !

Waheeda Rehman ka naam liya tumne....aur mujhe yaad aa gaye woh din !!

 

In my junior college ( teen ) years I was smitten by Waheeda Rehman.

I would go to the most remote theatres all alone (my friends being more

interested in then current revealing heroines ) even in the red light areas in

Nagpur to catch a Waheeda Rehman movie...for the umpteenth time..I would bicycle

all the way and was a little embarassed when my friends would find out !

 

I was such a fan that I would dream that she moved into the neigborhood and had

a daughter who looked just like her ( silly silly ).

 

Loved everything of the old movies...the romance...the songs....the

direction...you name it...The cinematography used to be so great that even the

black and white movies were so visually appealing...not to speak of how B & W

enhanced the then scary movies like Bees Saal Bad, Kohra.....man.....without

being gory etc..

 

When I was young I wished that I was born in the 50s and been in my teens when

these movies were made...silly again !

 

All those movies with their heavy dose of romance did translate into real life

;-))

Sorry for jumping..in. .after a real long absence..by my,own set standards...

..(Ha Ha Ha)

Probably,will read..all the pending emails..which r there..in my mailbox..and

compile a SHYAM'S Digest..and answer it soon..

Since,Sohana' s 9th grade exams finally got over (they have a strange

GULF-BOARD.. in 9th and aCBSE board..to follow in the 10th..and the 9th

std..exams.. were as strenuous..as the next yr's curriculum.. is to follow..)

So,we..decided to celebrate this 1 week cross-over holiday break..by watching

the much talked about..Delhi- 6

The songs from the new movie Album,Delhi- 6.,isnt all that good..,but

OK.OK..,with a couple of songs..like Genda Phool..and Masakali..hummable. .

Some how..I am not impressed by the songs..out these days..

No lyrics..but lots of yapping,rapping. .and tons..of techno music..and

remixes..

No substance..

Hear some,of the so called songs,of Delhi -6..by winner..Rehman. .and u

will wonder Why..I say so..

Particularly. .the Title song..and the Rehna Tum...(And one of the wise..member.

..if possible..,includin g... .explain. me the lyrics..)

..

Need a good change..of genre..and some good musicians..I guess..

To,put it mildly..folks. .

THE MOVIE,..DELHI- 6,is a damb squib...

Very poor storyline,

Very bad editing,..

Very bad Non-acting.. by actors..and. .

the usual story of an American Desi..coming back for good...from the Big

Apple..to the crowded Chandni Chowk..area. .of Delhi..,very badly narrated,..by

once a great director, of a movie like...Rang De Basanti,Rakesh Mehra...(yuck.

..yuck --avoid it..if possible)

But do ..see it..if u miss India..at this moment.,(for NRI folks.)..and if..U

like..to again see..Mr..Junior- B..and his pathetic acting skills..

Koi mujhe..acting ke liye chance dega??

Although..acted under MGIMS greats like Amulya,Fali, Ajit Saste..and Prof

Khapre..,I can still emote better than..Junior- B..and for a price..90%./ less

than him..,and atleast..I would be assured..of. .some audience..from the august

members here..and..my family..and some of my old trusted Gulf friends..to watch

the movie..and give..a good collection.. the first week(Ha Ha Ha)

Kya ho raha hain..aaj kal ke movie directors ko,samajh nahi aa raha

Take Subash Ghai and his pathetic flop...Yuvraaj. ..and now...this..

I think..I better watch..old films..of the 70's..and some old Marathi hits..of

bygone era..

Soothing on mind and soul..

Or probably..I don't belong to this Generation.. .

Equally sick..of Angrezi movies..as well..

I enjoy watching..some very family..children movies..like Charlie and the

Chocolate Factory,Sound of Music..and stuff like that.,with Sohana

I am not into..watching the Sci-Fi,mindless thrillers..or those senseless

horrors..or those..bikes. and car chases..or the ones..where the Goraas..save

the humans and the planet earth......from extra-terrestrial forces..(Yuck Yuck

Yuck..can't take that stuff anymore.)

Maybe,will see.... " The curious case..of Button " ..,someday. .perhaps. .

That was a good trip..down nostalgia lanes...,Ashok..

Yes...the B & W..era still holds the charm..in many of the movies..which I have

seen,reruns..out here..

Even some Marathi movies..like Teen Chor,Pinjara...etc still makes me..see such

reruns,more often..

Plus,Gurudutt's mastery at filming..with excellent light angles...and Bimal

Roy's fascination..for Horror...,had all the right ingredients,..to keep the

audiences glued to their seats..

I can never forget that grisly scene,..from Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam..when,during

the excavation of an old Haveli,they stumble.upon the remains..of the

Thakurain,Meena Kumari.,who apparently was never found..during her times..,.with

just her skeleton remains..and the goldbangle,visible,on that wrist,standing

out...from the dug out area....

...

Was very chilling....

On,that note..

Some light pointers..from ur mail..

1)I don't think,till Miss Zeenat Aman..and Parveen Babi..came on stage,and

Sharmila Tagore..did her swimming costume..bit,in Evening in Paris,there were

any revealing actresses..those days..

Watch any heroines..of Waheeda Rehman's league..and u will see why..

Like,Asha Parkeh,Hema Malini,Mala Sinha,Jaya Bahaduri(All were heavily

clothed..)

2)I am not sure..,if..Red Light areas..had/have theatres..,which..showed..of all

the things,Waheedaji's films..

I thout,they catered to a different audience..and showed different

movies...(Just joking).

Anyway..I sincerely believe ur story..if u..said..U had been..there..just..to

watch..Waheedaji's movie,afterall...we r thick batchmates..U see..

Friendships..based on Extreme Trust...(Ha Ha Ha).

I second that, Shyam.

I am sure that if Ashok were to be found in any red light area, it would be

only for watching Waheedaji's movie, and for no other purpose!!! After all,

we MGIMSites must stand together. (Thank you Ashok, for giving me a great

excuse to be found in such areas. I shall use it the next time. Until now, I

used to mumble about some home visit to a patient.)

Aaditya misses the reunion and Aarogyadham too! But he would prefer to have it

out here! He tells me that he would never go to India again.......he hates air

travel so much!

But that's nice Prabhs....of Skand to remember Ditto inspite of his busy
