Thanks

im just trying to figure out where to start and what type of insurance that i

should get my daughter covered with.

I have a couple of choices, one being an outrageous rate with my private

insurance that would only pay 80%...or

she would qualify for medicaid i believe...no idea how that works...(praying

she can be covered!)

then third, would be to go thru the drug company assistance, is that what you

did?

I won't be much help here. I was in (or I am still in) research studies.

On my first round of treatment my insurance paid for all my drugs and the drug

company paid for the doctor visits and lab work. With my second round of

treatment the drug company paid for doctor visits, lab work, and the Pegasys

and ribivirin. They have also been paying for any additional treatment

related to the study that my insurance didn't pay for which means footing the

whole bill since my insurance ran out in January.

I am a guinea pig for research studies.

The first study compared the efficacy of daily high dose Infergen monotherapy

to three times a week interferon with ribavirin combination therapy. Since

Infergen was FDA approved my insurance paid for the drugs. Amgen, this drug

company in this case, paid for the doctor visits and lab work. There was

assistance from Amgen available to help pay for drugs if I needed it.

The second study I was in was a safety study the FDA required Roche to perform

for them to get FDA approval for their Pegasys/Copegus combination therapy.

They are paying for everything that the doctor orders related to treatment.

In these cases the drug companies aren't necessarily being philanthropic. I

have heard that drug companies do have assistance programs to help pay for

drugs. About the only information that's available on drug company websites

is oriented towards marketing their products so the only other avenue I can

think of to find out about these programs is through the doctor or social

service agencies.
