Guest guest
Hi Cinnamon No good beating yourself up -who knows why these things happen? Could be any number of reasons. I don't know if they have any actual proof yet but Hashimotos is said to be hereditary and certainly my mother had it as well as me and I suspect my neice (age 21) has the beginnings of it too. Her levels were high 3 months ago but are now normal so I am encouraging her to keep getting tests because she suffers from "depression". I started digging in my family tree to see if I could find any evidence of my ancestors having it but no luck so far....only hemochromatosis. I sent my story to the list a couple of days ago so it should be easy to find in the archives. It took a few months for me to lose weight and I never quite regained my former weight. I have had to watch my weight ever since, whereas before I could eat myself stupid and not put on weight and was actually a little on the skinny side. As you will see in my story I gave up smoking and actually felt worse! It was 12 months before I actually felt good. So, don't let it get you down...you will feel better. A few tips I was given too - don't take anything with pseudoephedrine in it (cold medicines) as it interferes with thyroxine/oroxine which is what they prescribe here. This fact appears to be not well known amongst chemists/pharmacist/druggists (whatever you call them) and to take the medication in the morning on an empty stomach half an hour before food. regards Lyn in Oz. my first question I've been beating myself up wondering HOW on earth I became sick with this.Could there be a connection between:post partum hemmorage/causing onset of this disease?blood transfusions received during post partum hemmorage and the resulting surgery?or is it hereditary/bad luck?Is it possible that I've had this for a long time, but symptoms exacerbated after weaning my youngest? I went thru a stage about 10 years ago where I lost 25lbs very easily (without trying or wanting to) and couldn't put weight on. Then I leveled out again and recently started gaining quickly. Was it my smoking for 15 years of my life? Incidentally, I quit almost 4 years ago and haven't had a puff since. How long before I feel better? Start loosing weight? or am I doomed to be overweight forever now. Thanks,Cinnamon
