Guest guest
Dear Group, You'd think after having EN for 35 years I would have tried everything by now. Well, not really. I read on-line (can't remember where and don't have the link) that bacteria can invade the skin through openings as small as a pin prick. I have long felt there might be a connection between " injury " and EN flare-ups, at least for me. I mean injury to the leg that flares 99% of the time in my case. That leg also strangely enough grows much more hair than the other one--so I tend to want to shave it more. Although I am careful, it is so easy to get a small nick, and maybe even one that is invisible but able to allow bacteria in through the skin. So I have begun to apply antibioltic ointment to the leg after shaving. I am uging the over the counter triple antibiotic ointment, then covering it with a knee high stocking to keep it from rubbing off. Too soon to tell if it is making a difference. So far the skin is improving in texture and appears less " sunburned " in color. I will keep the Group posted if this makes any difference at all. By that I mean if it lengthens my remission. I don't know how much of the ointment actually gets absorbed. Perhaps enough to stop bacteria from attacking the already damaged cells. You all know by now that I am not medically trained, so those of you who are, if you see some big holes in this " theory " let me know. Hope Everyone has a Happy Sunday!
