I have been on Xolair for two and a half years now. When I started my IgE was measured at a little over 500. I haven't had it measured since then but my understanding is that when you're on Xolair your IgE actually goes UP, because when the Xolair blocks the action of the IgE, your body responds by making more to try to compensate. I found that it took about two months for me to feel the effects of the Xolair. It helped that I started it during the summer, when I am typically not sick much. As that fall and winter rolled on, I found that I was getting sick much less, and that when I did get sick it was not as serious and much easier to get rid of with fewer drugs than in the past. McBride wrote: Hi , Xolair is a relatively new drug. It's been used for about the past 5 years or so. you can read some about it at www.xolair.com For those whom the drug works, it is a real gift. for the ones who don't benefit, it's a huge expense. The numbers I was referring to are a refrence to a patiens' IgE count. It is ameasure of how much of an alelrgic response is going on. The minimum nuber is 30 to qualify for Xolair. I've heard of some folks with a measure well over 1000. My own biggest concern are the side

effects. One is a heightened risk of anaphylactic shock. I now carry an epi-pen just in case. The other is a doubling of the risk of cancer. The benefit is to have the entire allergic response minimized. I chose the benefit. Now we'll see if it works. My own peak flow measures have become much more consistant since my shots a few days ago. I was swinging up to 100 points from one reading to another on the same day. For 2 days i have had 480-490 on each meashre. That's up 50 from last week. i am hopefull. If you are not familiar with the med, do ask your doctor. He/She is probably better informed than I am.
