Sunday Times Letters.

Cc: Winner; Barbara Windsor (I should be grateful if the Letters

Editor ensures that sees a copy of my e-mail and he, in turn,

copies to Barbara Windsor and for a response from both whether my letter

is chosen for publication. Thank you.)

Winner says he can cure people with M.E. or Chronic Fatigue

Syndrome, with a combination of health pills, citing Barbara Windsor as

one of his successes, within three months (M.E. cure claim in " Tales I

never told, " Winner's dinners, Sunday Times, 18 December 2011).

This Research Psychologist and veteran M.E. sufferer since 1988, says:

M.E. is not the same at all as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, since M.E. can

be diagnosed as a discrete illness without tiredness and other symptoms

of this indiscriminate syndrome as a prerequisite. Further, Barbara

Windsor had neither M.E. nor CFS but a firm diagnosis of Epstein-Barr

Virus, which can need the two years she took to recover using the body's

own natural defences.

If still maintains the efficacy of his pills, shall we have a

little test to decide it? He sends his little pill list to some people

we know who really do have M.E. They take them as he prescribes and you

and he report the results in about three months time. If he proves his

case, we suggest that it becomes a recommended treatment, available on

The National Health Service. If not, he withdraws his claim and does not

tell this tale again.

The worst would be for neither of you to take up the invitation,

desperately ill patients, who have tried other treatments, writing to

, having raised hopes dashed yet again and more charlatans,

seeing another chance, joining those already exploiting chronically sick

people.

Yours sincerely
