Thanks, Andie -

Right now it's kind of rough but I know deep down that after the

holidays are over and done with it will get so much better. The biggest

problem I'm having now is adjusting to having the kids home all of the

time. I thought work was stressful enough but when those two get to

fighting and stuff it tends to wear me down. But I have tons of ways to

relax after they get to bed, I am grateful for that!

Exactly Selena! I have tons of " after they go to bed " relaxation

techniques...but other than that I really enjoy naptime LOL I have my

oldest read if she doesn't feel like resting. I really enjoy the quiet time

at that point of the day. My youngest is in her whiney time and the younger

two fight now more than ever. So I can definitely identify with where you

are right now : ) My husband constantly tells me that I am a saint for

being able to handle/deal with them all day, not to mention homeschooling

them too!

What is it about the holidays that make some children and adults act out?

LOL

I'm here if you need to talk or blow off steam. Feel free to email me

offlist if you wish. I definitely know what you are going through : )

RE: Introduction

Welcome officially to the group Selena!  I know how you feel going from

working to staying home with the kids!  Money is tight, but it does get

better...you and the kids are worth it.

Cool! I write poetry, but I do toss story ideas around in my head.

Now I just need to get them out of my head and onto paper...

LOL

RE: Introduction

Thanks for the welcome PJ. I'm working on a couple of novels right now

along with some short stories that I've been tossing around in my head.

I do motivational stuff too, it started out being just for me but I

decided to start sharing it with others. So I keep myself busy when I'm

home with my terrible two's.

Juggling work and the kids was hard for me too. I worked full time and

this was when I was still in the military. It was really hard because

my bosses would never give me the time off I needed because I was the

most valuable person they had - too bad they didn't compensate me for it

or I might have stayed in longer. But that's another chapter of my life

that has been thankfully closed this year. That was major stress!

It's hard finding good sitters without paying an arm and a leg. I went

through 3 with my daughter before my son was born and then still went

through a couple of more. But when my husband received a discount from

his job for one of the day care centers around here we jumped on it. It

would cost us more, but the service they gave was really good. The kids

would wake up wanting to go to daycare even on the weekends. So we

decided to let them go part time now for a couple days a week so they

can play with their friends. Plus Ashlyn (my 3 yo) is in the preschool

class now and I can't get her into any of the public school preschool

programs because she's not four yet. We decided it was a good idea to

let her go and keep up with the kids her age.

You're right PJ, they are only young once. It broke my heart when I

took my kids to a picnic on base and my daughter saw her sitter there

and ran straight to her and her kids. At least she never called any of

her sitters 'mommy' like I've seen other kids do. But I knew for a

while that I would have to stop working soon because they were spending

way too much time being taken care of by someone else. And everyday it

was something new they did that I missed.

Ok, if I keep going I will end up writing a book. Lord knows I've been

through enough to write a couple of anthologies.

Selena

Welcome, Selena. What kind of writer are you?  You might not

believe this, but we have several writers in this group!  Really!

Maybe, they should all get together and write a book!?  Ok, maybe not.

Glad to hear you are home with the kiddo's.  That is something I always

struggled with also.  My kids are now 22, 20, and 11 years old.  I DID

stay home with all three when they were little, although I did have to

work some off & on when all three were young, but I tried to limit it.

I seemed to have a hard time finding the " perfect sitter " for them, and

every morning going to work, and leaving them was awful for me.  It made

me a basket case! I am now working full time and still feel guilty when

my 11 yr. old needs me during the day, and I'm only available some of

the time.  It tears at my heart. I commend you for trying to stay home

with your children.  They will only be young once, and t

Oh Susie,

One would think that true, but unfortunately he doesn't think that way.

He's out of town a lot and it would be nice if he said thanks once in a

while for all of the things I do when he's gone. But he doesn't and I'm

getting used to it. Plus it's a lot quieter when he's gone, there's

less for me to complain about (i.e. what he doesn't do) and I get a lot

of my work done. So I guess it works out, in an odd way at least.

Hopefully he catches on soon.

Blessings,

Selena

Hi Selena,

I'm glad the affirmations helped.

Wouldn't hurt to have a daily reminder sent in to the group to

send in five affirmations IF anyone would like.

You would think that having you home and seeing the fruit of it

he would be thrilled. My husband would come home to supper on

the table, all the house in order, the kids clean and happy (very well

taken care of 'if I do say so myself, LOL') and the wood stove a

cookin. He had absolutely nothing to do when he got home except

eat, read the paper and be with the boys. Most husbands come home

to 'housework'!

Well you're certainly right you can't change him but you can live the

way you would like and he will catch on. :o)

Blessings to you too and thanks,

Susie

Daphne,

I hope so too. I've seen too many burnt out moms lately (me included).

It's the most joyous pain in the world I tell ya! I wouldn't trade in

the time I have with my little ones for anything. Even when they make

me mad I can't help but smile because I see so much of myself in them.

Especially my daughter, it's like looking in a mirror when I was a kid -

spitting image. I am in soooo much trouble when she's a teenager.

Daphne, I'm not sure if I read in a previous post that you're in

Nebraska or not. Are you? Cause I'm in Omaha.

Blessings,

Selena

Introduction

Dear Group,

My name is , and I have recently become

most aware of my need to focus on positive affirmations,

let go of my victim stance distortion, and deal with a

serious physical injury. I know a great deal about

counseling, and am an avid researcher of any and

everything that catches my fancy. I am on my 2nd

career, and along the way I continued my college

for 22 years. I believe that illustrates my obsessive/

compulsive personality. I am in recovery for a very

long time. I am terminally single, age 45. Oh well, lol.

Susie,

That's exactly what I think sometimes. But you're right, I need to ask

myself if I do the things that I expect from him. We've only been

married a couple of years so I know we still have a lot of learning to

do on both sides.

Thanks for the advice,

Selena

---

'Selena,

This probably isn't the case with you but back when I was feeling

unappreciated I thought " why doesn't he thank me for the things I

do " and then I asked myself " Do I thank him everytime he comes

in the door after work for all the things he does while he is there " ?

I guess now I just accept the fact that this is my job and that is.

He now does say thanks more often and I to him without even

thinking about it. I guess it comes with being together for so long. :o)

Hope it all works out,

Susie'

  • 1 year later...

Hi,

My name is Judith , and I live in Vancouver,

WA, just across the river from Portland, OR. I moved

here from California last month. There raw milk,

butter and cream, produced by Organic Pastures Dairy,

were easily available. So far I've been unable to

find such items in local stores, thus one of my

interests in this list is to find a source for raw

dairy.

On a more generaly level, I'm interested in real food,

and like to support local producers. I buy grassfed

beef from a local rancher, and would like to grow more

of my own vegetables.
