Plus, many of us actually gained a little weight from taebo from increasing our

muscle mass. Keep an eye on how your clothes fit and maybe take your

measurements, which are better ways to measure fitness than pounds. That's

great that you are trying to eat healthier too. That's a winning combination.

Tambra,

My husband is a Marine too! We will be moving to Quantico in November for

the officer basic school.

You didn't say what your body frame is...but I really dont think 120 is even

close to being too heavy for 5'3 and a half (which is my height). I probably

weigh close to 140. I'm medium framed. I am muscular though a bit buxom and

I think I'm pretty close to what my weight should be ideally. I'd say that

once I get the breast reduction (my big goal for many reasons including a bad

back) that I'd be happy at about 120-125.

Maybe you just need to tone up (ie adding weight resistant training to your

workout) and not really concentrate on what the scale says. I'm probably

just butting my nose in...I just hope that you are not putting too much

pressure on yourself!

Hugs,

<<

Okay, As I said I am 26 yrs. old. I'm married to a wonderful man and

have to beautiful girls. My husband, Mark, is in the Marines, so we

currently live in Hawaii. We are actually moving in July to Yuma,

AZ. We both are originally from Tennessee, but we both enjoy the

military life(Except for the fact that he has been gone since Feb. to

school. He missed our daughter's (Makai) birth April 5th (thank God

my mom was visiting). He has only see her for 12 days when she was

almost 2mths. old.)

My weight struggle started in 1994. I had my first daughter, Haila,

in Feb. of that year. I had never had a problem with weight and

never exercised, so needless to say I started gaining instead of

losing. I moved away from family when she was four months old, so I

started eating a lot more. I weighed 104lbs. before getting pregnant

and one year after she was born I weighed 142lbs. I'm 5'31/2 " so it

showed. The sad part is I was only 119 at my 6 wk. checkup. When I

found out that I was 142lbs. I was so ashamed. I couldn't believe I

let myself get that big. I knew then that it was true that people

don't realize they have actually gained that much. I hated going

home. I heard all kinds of weight jokes from family members. I got

into a deep depression. My husband was always there for me though.

He always told me that I wasn't fat when I knew that I was. I

finally decided to do something. I saw a dietician who set me up

with eating guidelines and I started doing step aerobics. I got down

to 118lbs. and felt better than I had in years.

Then we moved again and I gained 10lbs. and didn't try to get in

off. By the time I got pregnant last year I weighed 138lbs. I was

so scared of gaining weight. Well with this pregnancy I had bad

heartburn and couldn't keep foods down. I gained 19lbs. and lost it

and some more weight within weeks of her birth. I know it is all

because of breastfeeding and I have been walking and doing taebo

every now and then. I know someone who wrote (I don't remember your

names yet) was saying they wanted sweets while bf and that is me

too. I never craved anything while pregnant and never had a sweet

problem, but boy do I ever now. I'm trying to just watch my carb

intake and eat more fruits and veggies, so hopefully that works with

combining taebo. I went to the official website which is how it

brought me to this forum.

I weighed myself today and weigh 120lbs., so I actually just need to

lose around 8-10lbs. I know that is the weight that won't make me

look so pudgy. So, I am starting today with the 21 day challenge.

I'm so glad I found you guys. I look forward to hearing and sharing

progress with everyone.

I hope that wasn't too much for you guys to read and I hope it made

sense.

This is a great list to be on! I have made many wonderful friends. Last

February a group of us went to Los Angeles to do a Tae-Bo taping and work out

Tambra,

I agree with Elena. By what you said about your height (5'3") and your current weight (120 lbs), you should verify if by losing 8-10 pounds, you won't be in your "healthy" weight zone (ie your body mass index). I'm 5'2" and when I weighed 130 (before pregnancy), I was in the right range for my weight.

You can calculate your body mass index at this website:

actually I think it is better to include one's frame size too like at

<A HREF= " http://216.34.166.100/tools/calculator/ideal_weight.asp " >drkoop.com:

Ideal Weight Calculator</A>

According to my BMI, I'm still obese but I am obviously large framed when

measuring my wrist and alot closer to my optimal weight than my BMI would

indicate

Barb

who knows I'm carrying alot of muscle and am not really obese but perhaps

alittle overweight

Tambra,

Welcome to the group! I'm sure you will love it here...this is an

incredible group of people :) You will love tae-bo! It will

definitely help tone your muscles and get you in shape. You may find

that you don't actually lose that much weight (since you really don't

have much to lose to begin with), but you will probably be able to

fit into a smaller size weighing 120 lbs, then you could when you

weighed 104 lbs. I weigh 150 lbs (I'm 5'9) and can fit into a 7/8.

The last time I could fit into that size, I was suffering from

bulimia/anorexia and I weighed 130 lbs. So, if you don't see the

scale going down right away, don't panic. Try to go by how your

clothes are fitting and maybe even measure yourself with a tape

measure so you can track the inches you will lose!

There's another girl who posts here who is in the military and is

stationed in Hawaii. Her name is (honeybear). Maybe you

guys could get together before you have to move to Arizona!

Good luck with tae-bo! Feel free to ask us any questions you might

have (I see everyone already answered your question about the 21DC)!

I look forward to hearing more from you :)

Good to know there is another Marine wife here. My husband just left

Quantico in May. He just finished TBS. I didn't get to move with

him though, but then again I was pregnant. I don't know if it makes

a difference on how long the school is too. He was enlisted before

and got promoted to WO. I'm so proud of him. He has just been in 9

yrs. this past May, so I think he is doing great.

As for my weight, I know people probably think that I'm at my ideal

weight. I am small framed, but I still feel fat, and it isn't from

just being flabby from babies. I know how I looked before and how I

felt. The way my family is shaped if we get just a little weight on

us, even if it is ideal still, we still look a little heavier. I'm

not trying to be a supermodel or please anyone else. I just want to

make me happy. I'm glad you guys are giving your opinions though.

Thanks for listening.

Your email is very encouraging. You've done great with taebo. I

hope I have that success. Right now I know I focus on the scale a

lot, but if I could fit into a smaller size and still weight this

much I would love that. I'll let you know how I'm doing.

Tambra,

Maybe we'll end up at the same base someday! There are so few Marine bases

after all.

I'm glad to hear you are small framed... then the weight probably would be more

accurate. I just know being a medium boned girl myself that I always wanted to

be the same size as my more petite friends. It took a while for me to realize

that my weight should be just a few pounds above the average because of my

build.

Regardless concentrate more on those muscles and the mirror and less on the

scale. Its a bad habit....emotions can get to tied up with the numbers.

You didn't get to live with your hubby while he was at TBS? Do you mind me

asking why? Now I'm worried!!!! Everything has been planned around the two of

us going to Virginia together. Did you live in Virginia? I'm TRYING to find an

apartment that is affordable, takes cats, has W/D connections....and if if I get

really lucky hardwood floors. No luck thus far however. <sigh>

Tambra, you know your body best. We are all built differently that's

for sure. I think taebo will give you the results you are looking for.

It's very good at toning.

I have to agree with here... I'm 5'2" and my normal weight is between 115 and 135 (according to my BMI). You must remember that weighing too little is as much a health risk as being overweight.

He only had to go to TBS for 3 1/2 mths. and then 17 days after that

go to another school in Florida for 4 wks. We weren't even offered

moving together. I guess that is why. I know some people whose

wives moved out with them and found apt. A friend of ours is also

stationed at Quantico and he found a big house to rent out and he

loves it. He said the rent was pretty reasonable too.

Tambra,

Believe me, I totally understand the " focusing on the scale too much "

thing! I used to weigh myself every single day and if I gained a

pound, it would ruin my whole day. I have struggled with eating

disorders in the past....mostly in my early and mid 20's. So, it has

taken me quite awhile to get comfortable with the fact that I don't

need the scale to be a specific number in order for me to look good.

If you would have told me a few years ago that I would be able to fit

into a size 8 while weighing 150 lbs....I never would have believed

you! But, I look better now than I ever have in my life. I am

healthy and fit and strong and I actually look like I work out

now....as opposed to before when I would work out for hours and hours

and have no muscle definition because I wasn't eating enough! Just

take it one day at a time. It takes awhile for the focus to shift

away from the scale, but as you become stronger and see the changes

that are happening, both inside and outside.....it will be easier not

to rely on the specific number. Many of us here have struggled with

the same issues...so we understand and will help you see that

sometimes it just doesn't matter what the number on the scale is!

who is glad she is no longer ruled by the scale :)

I LOVE KIDS!!! I would love to have them " tagging along " so to speak!!! I

have a 16 mth old, but right now he lives in Ohio with his father...though I

have it on good authority that he, and his father are going to be flying back

with me in August for good.
