Lifting the ban on homosexual and bisexual men donating blood in the UK recognises that sexual orientation is not, per se, a physical illness. Retaining the ban on people who have M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) acknowledges that it is. Since we can now tell so much from the blood, wouldn't it be a good idea to analyse samples from M.E. sufferers to see why no one else should have it either, instead of assuming that they must be just a little bit tired or psychiatric cases - as equally illogical and unwarranted assumptions as those that were made about gays.
