I've had wonderful results taking supplements.

Calcium helps you fall asleep and magnesium helps you stay asleep. Potassium

regulates your heart rate. Together with sodium, these 3 supplements make up the

major electrolytes which are used up or dumped throughout every day with

activity or stress.

The trick for taking supplements is taking small doses as often as you eat.

100 mg of magnesium is about all your body can use at a time. Taking the RDA of

magnesium, 400 mg, at one time will be dumped, in pee or poop, as your body

releases what it cannot use.

Calcium in 200-250 mg doses throughout the day is about all your body can handle

at one time, so, calcium is best taken throughout the day or most of any more

than 200- 250 mg ends up being released by your body.

Potassium only comes in 99 mg pills since overdose is dangerous. However, since

the daily Recommended Daily Allowance dose for Potassium is 1,500 mg, it is

difficult to overdose unless taking more than one 99 mg tablet at one time.

Another helpful, relaxing, calming supplement I have used leading to wonderful

sleep and a calmer attitude is 5-HTP.

Vitacost.com/ brand is reliable. Brand makes a difference since I did some

switching of brands, trying to save money years ago, and found my established

restful sleep pattern disrupted.

Switching to Vitacost's brand of 5-HTP re-established my sleep. I began with 50

mg 5-HTP pills once a day, increasing my dose gradually over months, in case of

negative effects, until I was taking 500 mg in 5 doses a day.

5-HTP is a needed amino acid in our brains, laid low by consumption of " empty

carbohydrate " diets full of white flour, sugar, sugary drinks and juices, white

rice, starchy veggies like potatoes including chips and mashed potatoes. I miss

mashed potatoes with cream and butter, but I am now sleeping without 5-HTP since

this amino acid, once restored to your brain, stays there with a low carb diet.

Chelated minerals are bound with amino acids making supplements easier for your

body to absorb.

It is difficult to find low dose, chelated minerals but I found brand names of

these products at the best prices at Vitacost.com/ and iHerb.com/, a li'l more

expensively at VitaminShoppe.com/ .

If you check with your doctor, they may check your blood levels and pronounce

you healthy.

But that's because most doctors forget their nutrition education, that blood

levels of these minerals do not mean much unless they are low.

Blood levels of minerals and vitamins become low because there is no more of

them to be found to STEAL from our muscles by the blood supply which is primary

for life whereas muscle density of these nutrients are secondary.

Our muscles become low in nutrients waaaay before blood tests are any

indication. Low levels of nutients in our muscles, however, are why we develop

symptoms such as restless leg, migraines, spasms, tachycardia, etc, etc, etc.

I rarely suffer restless leg or spams any more.

And I haven't had migraines since beginning supplementation of magnesium,

calcium, potassium and vitamin D (3 doses per day = RDA of magnesium, calcium,

Vit. D) 16 years ago. They were horrifically painful migraines, completely gone

now. Yay.

I need advice for my insomnia, I'm not ready to take a prescription medicine.

Does anyone have an all natural approach? I've already set up my bedroom to be

more sleep-friendly.
