Guest guest
I went to the doctor & he told me to stop blowing my nose because it only makes the infection worse. Is this TRUE?? NO other has ever told me this. I am so congested and not blowing my nose is torture.
Guest guest
I doubt that what your doc said about blowing your nose spreading infection is true. But, well, it is his advice to stop blowing your nose that is perverse. It is true blowing your infected nose gets infection out and around on your hands and everything you touch, on paper tissues or handkerchiefs and into the air and on people, including the doctor. Maybe the doc wishes you would stay home while infected, wash your hands after every nose blowing, bury tissues after use, refrain from reusing the same handkerchief till infection is gone. Yeah, right. Like infection makes getting up for bathroom duties, burying tissues, easier. I keep a box of tissues and trash can near everywhere I sit in my house, my sinus problems are so chronic. Even keep tissues in the kitchen. Hmmm. I wonder if you really have an infection. Allergies can fill your sinuses to tortuous proportions too. Antihistamines may be helpful if you have reason to think your sinus problems may be related to allergies. The old antihistamines cut in halves or fourths may be enough. I cut the antihistamine (that makes Benedryl, but in pill form) in half. I take them every 3 or 4 hours, every day of the year. Antihistamines keep my corneas from sticking to my eyelids while sleeping, ripping cornea (awfully painfully) upon opening eyes, and, other benefits. Because I take only half a pill of antihistamine at a time, if my body still itches (my most common allergy symptom other than crankiness), I can comfortably take another half pill of antihistamine. Mold allergies are common this time of year in east USA. And allergies creep up on us, causing awful itching head to toe, or drowsiness we may attribute to CFS, FM or OI, general crankiness as well as, and besides, out of control sinus problems. toni cf-Alliance.tripod.com/ from iPodTouch On Sep 30, 2011, at 11:50 AM, canvaspaint wrote: > I went to the doctor & he told me to stop blowing my nose because it only makes the infection worse. Guest guest
I was told by my doctor that blowing your nose can cause the infection to force up into the Eustachian Tubes and small sinus cavities causing lingering difficulties. Guest guest
have you tried the flo sinus wash? its saline you boil water and let it cool a bit and put the sachet into this squeezy bottle and add the water then squirt it up your nose it goes in one side out the other then you switch sides. They have them at the chemist. I use it once a day and have a lot of sinus infections ive never been told that though. Ive kinda got one now it was a cold but i think its migrated to my sinuses its AWFUL!! the other thing i would suggest is a vaporiser with ecalyptus or tea tree oil in the water and possibly a decongestant tablet if you can tolerate that. from erin Sinus Agony I went to the doctor & he told me to stop blowing my nose because it only makes the infection worse. Guest guest
I've NEVER heard of that. I've heard that if you suck the infected snot up into your sinuses, the infection could spread. If you can't blow your nose, what are you supposed to do? Let shot run down your face? Guest guest
I'm not an MD but I don't think I'd stop blowing my nose with a cold, even if one told me so. Could be the doctor meant that continous blowing etc would aggravate the condition? I can't imagine not blowing my nose when I have a cold, or after having cried( then especially). Athough, i will say that sometimes blowing my nose all day long , (you know, when you get that *awful* stopped up nose)and it didn't help one bit. :-p K.
