Guest guest
My relative has a liver biopsy. There is nothing to be afraid of. She felt little pain after biopsy. Later the pain has diminished. - Aylin Hi Everyone! New to the group Hi, My mom was just diagnosed with Hep. C. I can say that this has changed everything in our lives but my mom seems to stay very calm about it. She has asked me to come on to ask you for advice. The Dr. explained everything to her about this disease but sometimes you can learn more from people that experience the same thing. Her Dr. told her that she needs to go through a 45 week(at most) treatment and that it would completely drain her. If that is inconclusive, then the liver biopsy. She is afraid for that. Has anyone here had this procedure done and does it hurt? What is my mother facing from now on? Please I would love any suggestion. Guest guest
Hi Susi ... welcome to the group. I am not a doctor but have my opinions. I've been through the treatment twice. I'm 98% confident the second round was successful. If it hasn't been done already, your mom must determine the genotype of the virus she has. The treatment is grueling. The treatment length is 24 weeks for genotype 2 and 48 weeks for genotype 1. Furthermore, one DOES NOT STOP treatment just because the virus clears during treatment. Sustained virological response is defined as no virus six months after the end of treatment. That's when you can be 98% confident that the treatment was successful. Although not strictly necessary I think it's useful to go ahead and have a liver biopsy done. That will tell how much liver damage there is and how much inflammation there is. That stuff is nice to know when weighing treatment options. Doug > Hi Everyone! New to the group > > > Hi, > My mom was just diagnosed with Hep. C.
