Let's see...whats up with ...

Nothing especially special going on... he's 13 now, and keeps telling me he's

ready to be 14!! He just got his haircut, and he thinks he's the most

handsome guy on the block...thats always a good feeling!! He loves playing

video

games with his brothers on the weekends. Joe and I are trying to get them out

of

the house more though, and we're going to go buy 4 or 5 mitts, and a ball and

bat, and see if we can't get our own lil family game going this weekend!

His IEP is coming up in April, and I've already talked to the teacher about

some new math objectives...I'd like to learn more about money, and learn

decimals, and use the calculator, etc... I want to reinforce this at home, by

starting an allowance, and letting him choose to purchase lil things at the

store, and have HIM talk to the cashiers, and pay, and wait for his change,

etc...

Hi Kristy,

is able to go up & down the stairs by himself! And giving me a

heart attack! Now that he is getting around very easily, every time he does

something his new words are; I do that & I did it. And recently we are

having evals done for IEP. He won't do anything for the person doing the

eval. But...when I leave the room does things, that he

won't do at home for me.

He had turned into a real three year old.

PS

I have quick question for you, I have a neighbor who has a daughter with

special needs. She will be graduating next year, but not with a GED. I am

not sure what the diploma is called. She found a community college that

will accept her. But..according to our school district, they said that no

college will accept her because it is not a GED. Do you have any insight on

this? I am trying to help her because she is from Poland and does not speak

English well.

Thanks,

Brag Time!

Thanks for sharing Angel! I am sure that is the most handsome guy on the

block! LOL

Good luck with your weekend outing! I think that is a great idea! It is a

wonderful way to bring the family together, get good exercise, and create

memories! I am always " creating memories " with my kids! It is the little things

that will always stick out the most when you grow older, so I am sure this

weekend will be a great one to remember!

It is good that you are working with on money and concepts like it. When

ever we go to the store I try to have Tim think about the cost of things, how

much money we will give to the cashier and how much we should get in return.

Even as bright as Tim is in most areas, money is still a hard thing to concept.

Especially receiving change, but he seems to be getting the concepts.

If you come up with any good stratagies that help along the way, please

share them with us, because I know this is something that most of our kids

struggle with.

Thanks

Kristy

that is awesome! I remember that heart stopping moment when my kids

started climbing stairs! It is hard not to stand behind them or hold on to them!

It sounds like has grown leaps and bounds in the past year! Its funny

what they will do for one person and not the next! Perhaps he is thinking when

you are in the room you will do it for him?

As for the young lady who is graduating. Please find out some more information

for me. What kind of school is she graduating from? What is the diploma called

that she is getting? Does she have a plan in place to help her with

transitioning? I would think that if the community college said they would

accept her then they would know what they are talking about. Also, sometimes you

can just take an entry test and if you pass that test you can go to the college.

(community colleges usually do this)

Hi Kristy,

My neighbors daughter is going to a public high school & will be receiving

an IEP diploma. The high school is offering her life skills plus some

academics. And informed her that no college will accept an IEP.

Thanks,

Hi Everyone - I haven't had much time to post lately, but giving the invitation

to brag to a grandma is something that can't be passed up. lol

Adam is doing great. He is well adjusted to preschool now. He has meet most

of his IEP goals, except potty training. He will run to the bathroom, with his

mom or I following quickly behind, pull off his pull-up, yelling " Go Potty " the

whole time. We put him on the potty and he sits their for a couple of minutes

and says " All Done " and gets up. Unfortunately, he really didn't do anything.

Oh well, at least he is starting to get the concept.

He is talking is two and three word phrases now. He is a very good " parrot "

and loves to repeat everything he hears. The other day, a little girl from his

school came into the preschool to read a story to the kids. Adam was trying to

repeat her as she read and about half way through the story, the little girl was

laughing so hard she couldn't finish reading.

He knows his letters and numbers to 20, he can sound out small words like CAT

and BAT. I would recommend the leap frog toy and videos. They are wonderful

for learning letters and sounds. He has the refrigerator phonics and word

whammer. He also knows his shapes and some colors. He is learning the days of

the week and starting to write his name with some help. The thing that is the

most amazing to me is that my granddaughter, who is a " typical " child knows part

of the ABC's, can count to 10 and knows a couple of the colors. She can talk up

a storm though. For example, on Sunday morning in church, if she starts getting

board and wants to go out of church, she yells " I am going to pee pee my pants " .

This is a big church and everyone knows when Skylar has to go. lol mom

thinks maybe sometimes it is a good thing that he doesn't talk much yet.lol

Enough bragging - you know I could go on for days. I love being a grandma

I am going to do some asking around....I know there are plenty of people that go

to college and I am sure they had an IEP diploma. I think the term is 504, but I

will check and let you know.
