Guest guest
I tested positive for hep-c in december and was given a SGOT test and it was at 160 U/L. Is that considered high? I know it is high for a normal liver but is it high for someone with HCV? My doctor at Kaiser seems to have an attitude toward me ever since I tested positive. She said she was going to refer me to a " Gastroentamolagist " (Sp?). I haven't heard from here since. I've never used drugs with a needle, but had cancer as a child and had to have my leg amputated (AK) and had blood transfusions . Have had a normal life for the last 25 years. Geese, I went through chemo and radiation before and it was no picnic and ultimately it didn't work. Is the Interferon similar to chemo, the barfing and all. Also, what about the herbal way with Milk thistle and dandilion and licorice. My girlfriend is going to get tested as well, what are her chances of having it. Thanks for any help. Guest guest
Hi, Please follow up on your referral to the gastroenterologist. Your liver enzymes are high, but that is part of the hcv. However, many people have hcv and don't have elevated enzymes. That is an indication of inflammation, hence, damage, to your liver. It's a shame your doctor is treating you that way. I would find another primary care doctor that you feel comfortable with. The treatment with the interferon is a much lower dose than the dose given for cancer treatment, and it is given intramuscularly rather than intravenously. Many people do experience nausea, but drinking LOTS of water will help that. Best wishes to you. http://www.tampabayhep.com > I tested positive for hep-c in december and was given a SGOT test and > it was at 160 U/L. Is that considered high? Guest guest
Hi, I have just recently been diagnosed as well, but it sounds like you have been through enough in you lifetime for several people! I think your doctor sounds crap. I'm in Australia, and we have liver clinics at most of the big hospitals, so maybe look into that. You need a heptalogist or liver specialist, don't know about the gastro sp. As I'm new to all of this, I can't really help you with much, just that I do alternative treatment as here they won't treat you until I start getting liver disease symptoms. I go to a chinese herbalist and take milk thistle in a loose tea form, plus eat loads of vegetables. Hope this helps you.
