Guest guest
Hi All, I love “Our Babies, Ourselves” also—it puts into context a lot of our expectations and the advice we are given as new parents. I also recommend “Everyday Blessings” by the Kabat-Zinns ( and , I think)-it’s basically about learning to be present with your children (parenting from a Buddhist perspective). One thing I always remember from that book is an old saying, “If you don’t let your children step on your toes while they are young, they will step on your heart when they are grown.” It helps make all the “inconveniences” seem more like a healthy part of the process. I must say that the parents I know who raised their children from this perspective are much closer to their children now that they are grown than other people who did things a more “traditional” way. And of course close relationships are essential to our health on all levels!! I also wanted to let you all know that iCaduceus is hosting a teleconference on Feb. 13th wherein Dr. Thom is facilitating a discussion on business solutions for the holistic physician. It is a question and answer session and should be an interesting discussion. I’m attaching the invitation letter that went out to our mailing list; we have a few spots still available, so let me know if you want to participate (there is no charge). It’s a great opportunity if you haven’t yet been in the fabulous Health of Business, Business of Health seminars he is teaching with Andre Belanger. Http://www.iCaduceus.com I just read a fantastic book called " Our Babies Ourselves " - How Biology and Culture Shape the Way We Parent (no relation to Our Bodies Ourselves) by Meridith Small. It is a great look at the field of ethnopediatrics and how different cultures rear their children. I so highly reccomend it to everyone who ever councils parents. Anyway - she has a chapter on sleep that is great to read, especially if you are having trouble. I also like the Dr. Sears Sleep Book.
