hi rita,

thyroid meds should not increase your heart rate or change its rhythm unless it pushes you into the hyperthyroid range. do you have a cardiologist?

yes i had horrendous sweats both night and day...it also depleted my female hormones which also contributed to the problem so its a good idea to have estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and DHEA tested.

it will take a few weeks to notice a difference with meds....however, if between your last visit to him when your TSH was 2.9 and now its 6.9 that should be addressed before your next appt....have the PCP fax those results to your endo then you follow up with a phone call making sure he saw it in case a change in dose is required.

i didn't feel better and shed my last hypo symptoms until my TSH was below 1 and didn't feel REALLY good and like my pre-hypo self until i got slightly into the hyper range...0.155

2 days isn't long enough to see a difference but you need to know if it should be changed in light of the new level.

i've been amazed through my 3 yr ordeal how ignorant the docs are about the thyroid and what all it can cause.

definitely have your female hormones checked...i needed HRT to treat the symptoms of a pseudo-menopause condition caused by the HT.

it all began kind of funny...i was pregnant with my 2nd child and unlike my 1st this one was a nightmare....everything that could go wrong did and i was sick and miserable the whole 9 months.....the delivery was what threw my stable hypothyroidism into an unstable tailspin....everytime i turned around i was back at my OB with something wrong so she and i were both looking forward to delivery so i would get better....well, the baby wasn't even 6 months old when i went back to her because i couldn't stand the symptoms anymore.....she asked was i better and i said....hell no, now i'm in menopause with horrendous hotflashes!!....she laughed and told me that wasn't possible because i was still in the post partum period....test showed it wasn't menopause but a pseudo-menopause.

over this 3 yr period the HT affected just about every body system and each specialist i went to didn't even want to treat me once they saw my TSH levels and said thats most likely the problem....come back when your thyroid is straightened out if you still have problems. my highest TSH was 73 and my blood pressure and pulse were so slow they couldn't get it.

i hope they get you straightened out - stay on them...you do not want your TSH out of control like mine was....its taken 3 yrs and i THINK they have me stabilized by they really don't know because my HT is so bad i keep flipping between hypo/hyper....

-- Hashimoto's and SVT

Hello all,I have a couple questions, and hope someone can help me understand if what I feel is "normal". I got diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease last October. I have 4 nodules, I tested positive for Hashimoto's antibodies, had first round of biopsies, and I had TSH of 2.5 and 2.9. Endo said that he would put me on drugs with that TSH level if I wanted, but it was up to me.My problem was (and is), I have had periodic supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) for several years for which I take a beta-blocker. Endo said that drugs might worsen that condition. so, I opted to wait and see what happens. My PCP scheduled me for a follow up TSH test for January, (Monday this week) and lo and behold, my TSH was up at 6.9 (this was all over the phone, so I don't see the actual results or normal range). She said I needed to talk to the endo. Okay, I am not scheduled to see him until April, and he has no openings before then, so this was all over the phone with the nurse. He put me on .05 mg Synthroid. I had not anticipated needing medication so quickly, so I haven't had the chance to sit down and talk with him again about medicine choices and the nurse said he would not put me on a T3 containing drug before we "have that conversation". For about a year, I've had periodic night sweats. The night before my Monday appointment this week, I had a really bad night, very hot, drenching night sweat, and I felt just awful when I went in for my TSH test. I was hot, shaky, and anxious and otherwise feeling slightly nauseous and just icky. Brain fog big time. Then I had the highest TSH reading to date. I've seen other people mention night sweats here, and I want to know if this is a typical Hashimoto's symptom. I don't know what to think. I've never felt quite this bad, though I've been tired and sluggish for years. I've been feeling awful all week. So shaky and sick. The endo didn't seem to think that the night sweats were related to the thyroid when I saw him in October. Is he wrong? Do others feel this way? I know everyone experiences this differently, but I am a little concerned because it is Friday and I continue to feel awful, anxious, sick, shaky. I've been on the Synthroid for 2 days only, so if it is going to help, it probably won't be for a while, I guess. I know many here have nothing good to say about the drug...Is there anyone else out there living with both SVT and Hashimoto's? I see someone mentioned PVCs, and I do get those too, but they are not so much a concern to me as the SVT. SVT messes up my life significantly as it is, and I'm not sure what effect the thyroid meds will have on me.... At any rate, this is going to be an interesting time in my life, no doubt....

Hi Rita, sorry to hear about your tough time. Your endo. sounds

not too bad though -- I say that because he was at least willing

to let you consider starting on thyroid meds even when you weren't

officially hypo -- most wouldn't want you to have any choice in the

matter.

I can tell you the only time I had heart trouble was

when I was severely hypo. I had baaad palpitations, just a really awful

feeling in my chest and heart, severe anxiety (I didn't even know what

to call it, it felt so physical to me). Heart felt like it would stop.

As I started on thyroid meds, that all slowly resolved and I no longer

any have problems. I had an occasional night sweat and nausea during

that time, but nothing like you. However, hypothyroidism can make you

feel really weird and I'll bet everyone here has had symptoms

that aren't textbook, so I'd say it could be that or related hormonal

problems. Synthroid works fine for some, so I'd say try to give it a

chance. Definitely if you have heart trouble they will be more hesitant

to give you T3 but don't feel discouraged yet, your body is struggling

to regulate itself so it will take a while.
